Under the general direction of the designated supervisor, responsible for mechanical repair of assigned vehicles and equipment. This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Responsibilities and Reporting During an Emergency Situation:
Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared emergency. Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require working around the clock for several days on short notice.
Non Essential Employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency. The employee's Department Head will determine when the employee will be required to work.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Repair and/or replace defective parts.
- Install special functional and structural parts in equipment and vehicles.
- Mount, balance, repair and replace vehicle tires.
- Repair electrical equipment.
- Responsible for performing preventative maintenance tasks on all City Solid Waste vehicles and equipment.
- Clean work area, machines, tools and equipment.
- Must drive motor vehicles.
- Must participate in on-call duty.
- May require to drive a motor vehicle to accomplish assign task.
- This position requires regular and reliable attendance and the employee's physical presence at the workplace.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Service City's fleet vehicles and equipment, including, brakes, tires, engine work, etc.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment required for assigned task
- Knowledgeable in the occupational hazards, safety precautions and personal protective equipment observed in the trade(s) assigned.
- Knowledgeable in the City and State rules, regulations and protocols.
- Knowledgeable in general housekeeping practices.
- Skilled in the efficient and safe operation of trade specific tools and equipment.
- Skilled in troubleshooting and repair within assigned trade(s).
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to operate vehicles and necessary equipment including but not limited to hand tools.
- Ability to apply sound judgment and interpretation based on acquired knowledge in circumstances where limited standardization exists.
- Ability to adapt to performing under frequent deadlines and/ or in response to emergencies.

Minimum Requirements
- High School diploma or GED.
- One year of experience in fleet maintenance or vehicle related work.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Mandatory Drug/Alcohol Testing required.
- Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
