Position Summary

We are seeking a Board-Certified Anatomic and Clinical Pathologist (AP/CP) to join our practice as a Float Pathologist. This unique role provides diagnostic pathology services across multiple practice locations, offering flexibility while supporting physician coverage, operational continuity, and high-quality patient care.

The Float Pathologist will provide comprehensive anatomic and clinical pathology services, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams and fellow pathologists across various practice settings. This position is ideal for an adaptable physician who enjoys diverse case exposure, values collaboration, and is comfortable practicing in multiple clinical environments.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide expert diagnostic interpretation of surgical pathology, cytology, and other anatomic pathology specimens across multiple practice locations.
• Deliver accurate, timely, and comprehensive pathology reports in accordance with established medical standards and best practices.
• Provide pathology consultation and communicate clinically significant findings to referring physicians and other healthcare providers.
• Travel between assigned practice locations to provide physician coverage, accommodate staffing needs, and maintain continuity of pathology services.
• Collaborate with pathologists, surgeons, oncologists, clinicians, and multidisciplinary care teams to support exceptional patient outcomes.
• Exercise independent medical judgment while adapting to varying workflows, case volumes, and clinical environments.
• Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives to promote excellence in pathology services.
• Ensure compliance with all accreditation, regulatory, and organizational standards.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and timely pathology documentation and reporting.
• Participate in continuing medical education and remain current with advances in pathology and diagnostic techniques.
• Foster strong professional relationships and contribute to a collegial, team-oriented culture across all assigned locations.

Job Requirements / Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
• Board Certification in Anatomic Pathology (AP) and Clinical Pathology (CP).
• Active California medical license or eligibility to obtain licensure prior to employment.
• Strong diagnostic expertise in surgical pathology and clinical pathology.
• Willingness and ability to travel regularly between multiple practice locations throughout the assigned service area.
• Ability to quickly adapt to different clinical environments, workflows, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with physicians and healthcare professionals.
• Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered pathology services.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two to four (2 4) years of experience in a pathology practice or comparable clinical setting.
• Fellowship training in one or more surgical pathology subspecialties, including but not limited to:
  • Cytopathology
  • Breast Pathology
  • Gastrointestinal (GI) Pathology
  • Gynecologic Pathology
  • Other relevant pathology subspecialties
• Experience working in high-volume, multi-site pathology practices.
• Demonstrated ability to manage diverse case mixes across multiple healthcare settings.
