Float Phlebotomist

Job Title: Float Phlebotomist
Functional Group: Phlebotomy/Patient Service
Location: Peekskill New York 10566
Required coverage area:  Need to travel upto 50 miles
Duration: 5 months (Extendable or contract to hire)
Schedule: Floater will be required to be available Monday-Friday 7am-8pm rotating Saturday or Sunday 9-5pm. There will be 8 hours of shift in between this window
Pay Rate: $26/hr

Requirements:

• 1-2 years of working experience as a phlebotomist.
• Active Driving License
• Need to have a reliable vehicle
• Experience with straight, butterfly needles and color tubes.
• 2 years of blood draw, venipunctures experience.

Duties may include but are not necessarily limited to the following:

• Travel between assigned patient service centers and laboratory locations to provide phlebotomy coverage as needed.
• Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture on pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.
• Identify patients accurately and verify laboratory orders before specimen collection.
• Collect, label, process, and prepare blood specimens for laboratory testing according to established protocols.
• Follow the correct order of draw and maintain specimen integrity during collection, handling, and transportation.
• Perform blood draws using straight and butterfly needles, including challenging venipuncture when necessary.
• Centrifuge, aliquot, separate, and package specimens according to laboratory procedures.
• Register patients, verify demographic information, and enter laboratory orders into the appropriate system.
• Follow standing orders, maintain accurate documentation, and ensure proper specimen identification.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area while following infection control, HIPAA, and safety guidelines.
