Forklift Operator / Material Handler

Job Description

This role combines forklift operation, material handling, and light assembly work in a clean, organized warehouse and manufacturing environment. You will move materials safely using various types of forklifts, support shipping and receiving activities, assist with inventory control, and help assemble high-performance protective cases and lighting products.

Responsibilities

• Operate stand-up and sit-down forklifts, cherry pickers, and pallet jacks to move materials safely and efficiently throughout the facility.
• Handle materials and products for shipping, receiving, and inventory control, ensuring accurate placement, labeling, and documentation.
• Use RF scanners to perform inventory transactions, track product movement, and support inventory control processes.
• Support shipping and receiving operations by loading and unloading trucks, staging materials, and verifying incoming and outgoing shipments.
• Perform data entry related to inventory, shipping, receiving, and material handling activities with a high level of accuracy.
• Assemble various sizes of heavy-duty protective cases used to store expensive equipment such as cameras and lighting accessories.
• Add foam inserts to cases and ensure all components are correctly fitted and assembled according to specifications.
• Work on the flashlight line assembling mid-size flashlights, following detailed instructions and quality standards.
• Use small hand tools such as drills, hammers, and rivet machines to complete assembly and packaging tasks.
• Operate automated shrink wrap machines for packaging and securing products as needed.
• Lift and move products weighing between 7 and 35 pounds throughout the shift while following safe lifting techniques.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, following all safety procedures and wearing required personal protective equipment.
• Participate in facility tours and interviews and complete required screening processes prior to assignment.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production, quality, and safety goals on a consistent basis.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience operating forklifts, including stand-up and sit-down forklifts.
• Experience with cherry pickers and pallet jacks in a warehouse, manufacturing, or distribution environment.
• Familiarity with inventory control processes and RF scanner use.
• Ability to perform accurate data entry related to inventory, shipping, and receiving.
• Previous experience in manufacturing and/or distribution environments (preferred but strongly valued).
• Capability to lift and move items weighing 7 to 35 pounds throughout the shift.
• Willingness and availability to work 2nd shift (2:00 pm 10:30 pm) or 3rd shift (10:00 pm 6:00 am).
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions for assembly and material handling tasks.
• Commitment to safety, including consistent use of personal protective equipment and adherence to safety procedures.
• Ability to participate in an on-site tour and interview and provide an up-to-date resume.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience assembling products using hand tools such as drills, hammers, and rivet machines.
• Exposure to operating automated shrink wrap machines or similar packaging equipment.
• Comfort working with protective cases, lighting accessories, cameras, and related equipment.
• Prior experience in a clean, organized warehouse or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to learn new equipment and tools quickly and adapt to different workstations as needed.
• Strong teamwork skills and reliability in meeting shift schedules and production goals.

Work Environment

The work takes place in a clean, well-organized warehouse and manufacturing facility focused on assembling heavy-duty protective cases and advanced lighting products. You will work on 2nd shift (2:00 pm 10:30 pm) or 3rd shift (10:00 pm 6:00 am), handling materials, operating forklifts, and performing assembly tasks throughout your shift. The role involves regular lifting of 7 to 35 pounds and frequent use of tools such as small drills, hammers, rivet machines, pallet jacks, and automated shrink wrap machines. The facility provides safety glasses, gloves, and an orange vest, while employees supply their own steel-toe boots. The environment emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and efficient workflow, with each employee receiving their own set of tools to perform assembly and packaging tasks effectively.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Torrance, CA.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
