Fortinet IDS & Firewall Operations Engineer

The Role

Device-level Fortinet appliance engineering and operations not firewall rule/policy management. The person will deploy, onboard, and operate Fortinet IDS/IPS appliances, run FortiManager/FortiAnalyzer, and troubleshoot connectivity and traffic visibility across a large, multi-region data center environment.

Must-have (anchor the search here)

• Hands-on Fortinet FortiGate engineering/operations appliance deployment, onboarding, interface/VLAN config, device health, firmware/patching
• FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer hands-on, not just listed
• Strong TCP/IP and routing fundamentals (BGP, OSPF) able to troubleshoot adjacency, reachability, and traffic-path issues, not just configure them

Strongly preferred

• Traffic visibility engineering: SPAN, TAP, port mirroring on Cisco IOS/NX-OS
• Packet-level troubleshooting (Wireshark/tcpdump)
• Experience validating firewall/NAT connectivity across multiple platforms (Palo Alto, Check Point, Firepower, Fortinet) to support monitoring again, connectivity validation, not rule authorship
• LLD documentation, network topology, operational runbook writing
• Network discovery tooling (NetBrain, Infoblox)
• SIEM log integration (Splunk) and Python/Ansible automation for health checks
