The Role

Our client is hiring its first dedicated engineer. You'll work directly with the founding team to own the systems at the heart of the product: portfolio research tools and agentic workflows that automate real estate operations. Customers are asking for more automation than the team can build today, so you'll take ideas straight from client conversations and turn them into shipped features.

What you'll be doing

• Building and owning the portfolio research and chat experience, where clients ask questions across their entire portfolio and run multi-step analysis on complex data
• Designing agentic workflows, including structured extraction, tool use, and multi-step AI pipelines, that run reliably at scale
• Putting the right foundations around LLMs in production: evaluations, monitoring, context handling, structured outputs, and graceful failure handling
• Working with customers and in-house domain experts to find what should be automated, then shipping it end-to-end without a written spec or a designer
• Growing into the go-to owner for your area of the platform

Tech stack: TypeScript, React, Python, AWS

Requirements

• Hands-on experience building LLM agents and multi-step AI workflows, including tool calling and the design choices that make agents dependable (handling nondeterminism, managing context)
• Solid grasp of retrieval-augmented generation
• Experience designing relational data models for messy, hierarchical real-world information such as documents, versions, entities, and how they relate
• Strong backend skills in Python on systems built to scale
• One to three years of professional engineering experience, including founding or early-stage engineering roles
• A track record of shipping and owning production software for business customers where reliability really matters
• Experience building vertical AI products for business customers, or document processing systems at scale
• Comfort taking a feature from idea to production on your own, and keeping stakeholders informed along the way
• A four-year degree
• Able to work in the Manhattan office five days a week

Nice to Haves

• Experience at an early-stage AI company where you owned a production AI system from zero to one
• Exposure to real estate, finance, or asset management data
• Experience building evaluation and observability tooling for LLM systems
• Experience working directly with enterprise customers on sensitive data
