Director of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)

TRC Talent Solutions is partnering with a well-established specialty construction and engineering company specializing in the design, construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of prestressed concrete water storage tanks and infrastructure solutions.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Director of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) to lead financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, strategic reporting, and financial analytics.
This position will play a critical role in supporting the organization's financial performance, operational efficiency, and long-term growth. The Director will partner closely with executive leadership and regional operations, oversee the financial analytics team, lead Board-level reporting, and support strategic initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions.
Previous construction industry experience is required for this position. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of financial planning and analysis within a construction or project-based business environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting
Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with senior management and department leaders.
Oversee monthly financial forecasting, reforecasting, and predictive analytics to evaluate performance against budget.
Develop and maintain integrated three-statement financial models supporting long-term strategic planning.
Lead the development, coordination, and ongoing reporting of the company's five-year business plan.
Provide timely and accurate financial guidance and recommendations to executive leadership.
Ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements and bank covenants.
Financial Reporting & Business Analytics
Own monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages for executive management and the Board of Directors.
Prepare bi-monthly KPI reports highlighting financial performance, operational trends, and key business drivers.
Develop financial dashboards and reporting tools to improve visibility into company performance.
Identify opportunities for operational and financial improvement through detailed analysis and data-driven insights.
Partner with Accounting, Operations, and Development teams to ensure accurate financial data and reporting.
Oversee data validation and reporting processes within the company's data warehouse.
Support the development and utilization of Power BI reporting and analytics tools.
Strategic Planning & Executive Reporting
Lead financial analysis supporting long-term business strategy and company growth initiatives.
Prepare financial presentations and reporting materials for Board of Directors and lender meetings.
Present financial findings, trends, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and key stakeholders.
Lead financial modeling, analysis, and due diligence activities related to mergers and acquisitions.
Collaborate with cross-functional leadership teams to align financial strategies with operational objectives.
Team Leadership & Development
Manage, mentor, and develop a team of financial analysts.
Establish reporting standards, analytical processes, and best practices to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Promote a collaborative, data-driven culture across the organization.
Support professional development and succession planning within the financial analytics team.
Provide oversight and guidance on special financial projects and ad hoc analysis.
Required Qualifications
Construction industry experience, with a strong understanding of construction financial operations, project-based financial reporting, and forecasting.
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
7–12+ years of progressive experience in corporate finance, financial planning, or FP&A.
5+ years of leadership or people-management experience.
Strong experience developing Board-level financial reporting and executive presentations.
Advanced financial modeling, forecasting, budgeting, and analytical capabilities.
Comprehensive understanding of financial statements, including P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow.
Previous experience supporting mergers and acquisitions, including financial modeling and due diligence.
Demonstrated ability to translate complex financial data into actionable business recommendations.
Strong communication, organizational, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
MBA, CPA, CFA, or FPAC certification.
Experience with SQL reporting tools, Power BI, and financial dashboard development.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including complex financial modeling.
Experience supporting long-range strategic planning and executive-level financial decision-making.
