Location: Remote (Must reside in AZ, CO, FL, GA, IL, MD, MI, NC, NJ, NY, PA, TX, or WA)

    Employment Type: Full-Time (45–50 hours/week) | W-2 Employee

Compensation: $110,000 Base Salary + Performance Incentives (Target OTE: $182,000)

    STOP: Please Read Before Applying

This role requires direct experience managing 4 or more client relationships simultaneously in a fractional CFO, outsourced CFO, Client Advisory Services (CAS), or multi-client advisory environment.

    Have you done this?

If yes, great—we'd love to tell you more.

If not, this role likely isn't the right fit, and we sincerely appreciate your interest.

    About the Role

This is a full-time, salaried Fractional CFO Advisor positionnot a 1099 consulting or independent fractional practice.

As part of the HTM team, you'll provide CFO-level financial leadership to a portfolio of approximately 25–30 small law firms. We handle all sales, marketing, and client acquisition so you can focus entirely on delivering strategic financial guidance, building trusted relationships, and helping business owners make smarter financial decisions.

If you've worked in a fractional CFO, outsourced CFO, Client Advisory Services (CAS), or multi-client advisory environment, you'll feel right at home. Success in this role requires the ability to confidently shift between multiple businesses while providing every client with the level of strategic insight and partnership they expect from a trusted CFO.

This role is just as much about building relationships as it is about financial expertise. You'll become a trusted advisor whom business owners rely on to help guide critical decisions and improve the financial health of their companies.

No legal industry experience is required. Our structured onboarding program will teach you everything you need to know about serving law firms, including the financial benchmarks, KPIs, and business model unique to the legal industry.

Most client interactions take place through scheduled virtual meetings supported by ongoing email and internal communication. There is no travel required.

    About HTM

How To MANAGE a Small Law Firm (HTM) is the nation's leading fractional C-suite provider for solo and small law firms.

We've been recognized as an Inc. 5000 Fastest-Growing Company every year since 2013 and continue to grow rapidly.

Our culture is built on ownership, accountability, flexibility, and results—not bureaucracy. We believe exceptional people do their best work when they're trusted, supported, and empowered to make an impact.

    Who This Role Is For

You'll likely thrive here if you:

    • Have advised multiple small to mid-sized business owners—not just managed one company's finances.
    • Enjoy turning financial data into practical business decisions.
    • Love building trusted relationships with entrepreneurs.
    • Thrive in a fast-paced environment where every day brings different business challenges.
    • Want the stability and benefits of a full-time W-2 position while still enjoying the variety of advisory work.
    • Take pride in helping business owners become more profitable and financially confident.

    What You'll Do

You'll become the trusted financial advisor for a portfolio of growing businesses, helping owners understand their numbers, improve profitability, and make confident business decisions.

    Responsibilities

    • Serve as CFO for approximately 25–30 clients.
    • Analyze financial statements, KPIs, cash flow, profitability, and business performance.
    • Identify financial trends, operational risks, and growth opportunities.
    • Deliver monthly financial reviews and strategic recommendations.
    • Help business owners understand financial data and turn insights into action.
    • Develop budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
    • Hold clients accountable to financial goals and performance metrics.
    • Partner with bookkeepers to improve financial accuracy and reporting.
    • Build long-term trusted advisor relationships with clients.
    • Collaborate with internal team members to deliver an exceptional client experience.

    Required Qualifications

    • Direct experience managing 4 or more concurrent client or business-unit relationships in an advisory, fractional, outsourced CFO, CAS, or multi-entity environment.
    • This is a hard requirement—not a preference. Candidates whose experience is limited to a single company's in-house finance function will not be considered.
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field.
    • Strong accounting and financial management background.
    • Ability to translate complex financial information into practical business advice.
    • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
    • High emotional intelligence and executive presence.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

    The Ideal Candidate

    • 10+ years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience.
    • Experience supporting businesses with annual revenues ranging from approximately $500K to $30M+.
    • Strong background in forecasting, budgeting, cash flow management, financial reporting, and FP&A.
    • CPA or CMA designation is a plus but not required.
    • Comfortable having difficult financial conversations with confidence, empathy, and professionalism.
    • Believes financial leadership is about helping business owners make better decisions—not simply reporting the numbers.
    • Thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where every client presents a unique opportunity to create value.

This Role Is NOT a Fit If

    • You're looking for a part-time, consulting, or contract opportunity.
    • You prefer supporting one company instead of managing multiple client relationships.
    • You want to continue building your own fractional CFO practice.
    • You prefer delegating financial analysis instead of performing it yourself.
    • You thrive only in highly structured corporate environments.
    • You aren't energized by building strong relationships with business owners.

    Compensation & Benefits

    • $110,000 base salary
    • Performance incentives with target earnings of $182,000 annually
    • Medical, dental, and vision insurance (75% employer-paid)
    • Company-paid short- and long-term disability insurance
    • 401(k) with company match (up to 3.5%)
    • Unlimited PTO
    • Company-wide paid shutdown during Thanksgiving week
    • One additional mandatory paid week off annually
    • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
    • Pet insurance
    • Legal benefits
    • Professional and leadership development programs
    • Fully remote work environment with flexible scheduling
