General Summary
In the absence of the Seasonal Pool Manager, the Lifeguard II position manages the facility and has all of the responsibilities designated for the manager on duty. This includes pool operations, staff supervision, customer service and pool maintenance. Supervision is exercised over Lifeguard I, Customer Service Attendants, Instructors and other temporary, seasonal positions. Performs responsible semi-skilled and routine protective service work in supervising the safe use of public swimming facilities by pool visitors and aids troubled bathers in emergencies; performs related duties as required. Reports to the Seasonal Pool Manager or a Parks and Recreation Aquatic Operations Specialist.
Anticipated Work Schedule (Subject to Change Based on Operational Needs):

The hiring amount for this position is between $19.00 - $19.50 an hour. Starting offer is based on applicable education, experience, and internal equity. This position is also eligible for the following leave and retirement benefits:
Vacation Leave: 3.09 hours accrued bi-weekly (increases with YOS).
Sick Leave: 4.62 hours accrued bi-weekly, approx. 120 hours per year with no limit on accumulation.

1 Floating Holiday which must be taken during the fiscal year (July 1 - June 30)
Choice of retirement plan:
Defined Benefit Pension Plan: Provides a monthly benefit upon retirement, calculated using a defined formula based on earnings history, years of service, and age. The plan includes a 5-year vesting period and requires an employee contribution of 5% of salary.
Defined Contribution 401a Plan: Employer makes fixed contributions to an individual account, which are invested, and returns are credited to the account. The account balance is used to provide retirement benefits. Vesting occurs at 33% after one year, 67% after two years, and 100% after three years of service. No salary contribution is required.
Voluntary 457 Deferred Compensation Plan
Eligibility to purchase prior service credit under the Defined Benefit Plan

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to accurately evaluate aquatic situations and facility needs and make recommendations to management; ability to evaluate and communicate effectively with staff and assist lifeguards in improving performance; thorough knowledge of water safety rules and of life saving and first aid practices and techniques; general knowledge of the cleaning and maintenance requirements for large pools and related equipment and supplies preferred; considerable skill and strength in swimming; ability to enforce rules and regulations; ability to remain calm under pressure/stress.
Physical Conditions & Additional Information
Physical requirements of this position as outlined by the Department of Labor as MEDIUM: work involves exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, or an amount greater than negligible and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
This position may be required to work weekends, nights, holidays, stand-by/on-call and/or weather-related emergency on-call. This is a safety sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing for pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, post-accident and random testing.
Position may require driving a City-owned vehicle and is subject to the vehicle use policy and procedures.
The majority of time spent in this position involves outside work which may involve extreme temperatures, extreme brightness, chemicals/hazardous waste, gases/gas leaks, blood-borne pathogens, acidic or harsh substances, infectious bacteria and/or fumes/airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
