Position Summary
The Head of Maintenance is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and operational
performance of the hotel’s maintenance department. This role ensures all building systems, facilities, and
equipment are maintained to the highest standards of safety, functionality, and guest satisfaction. The
Head of Maintenance oversees preventive maintenance programs, capital planning, budget management,
and regulatory compliance to support operational excellence and long-term asset preservation.
Essential Functions
The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Provide strategic leadership and direction for all maintenance and engineering operations
• Develop and implement comprehensive preventive maintenance and asset management
programs
• Oversee the operation, repair, and lifecycle management of HVAC, plumbing, electrical,
mechanical, and life safety systems
• Ensure compliance with all building codes, safety regulations, brand standards, and OSHA
requirements
• Conduct routine inspections of facilities and systems to ensure quality, safety, and operational
efficiency
• Oversee and manage vendor relationships, contracts, and third-party service providers
• Develop and enforce maintenance policies, procedures, and standard operating practices
• Analyze maintenance data and trends to improve efficiency, reduce downtime, and control costs
• Respond to and oversee resolution of complex or high-impact maintenance issues and
emergencies
• Collaborate with housekeeping, front office, and other departments to support seamless
operations and guest satisfaction
• Ensure proper documentation of maintenance activities using work order systems
• Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
• Ensure proper upkeep of exterior areas, grounds, and all public and back-of-house spaces
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance and report to work as scheduled
Education and Experience
• High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or degree in engineering, facilities
management, or related field preferred
• Minimum of 5+ years of progressive maintenance experience in hospitality or a similar
environment
• Minimum of 2–3 years of supervisory or management experience
• Experience with budgeting, capital planning, and vendor management
• Strong knowledge of building systems and hotel operations
