A leading automotive and EV-battery manufacturer is hiring a Functional Safety Engineer in Liberty, NC (100% onsite) to audit Safety Control Systems for compliance to ISO 13849 and ANSI B11, design and verify countermeasures to target control category and performance levels, and keep a third-party validation vendor in technical check. The role is predominantly reviewing and redoing Safety PLC logic and safety circuitry.
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities
Audit Safety Control Systems (SCS) for compliance to ISO 13849 and ANSI B11, and identify and document non-conformities
Design and verify countermeasures to achieve target control category and performance levels
Review and redo Safety PLC logic and safety circuitry; perform hands-on troubleshooting and implementation
Develop detailed area project plans, schedules, deliverables, milestones, and KPIs
Manage a third-party consultant group by milestones, concerns, and KPIs; keep the validation vendor in technical check
Lead cross-functional communication and provide written and verbal status reports to management
Audit SCS design modifications for correlation with intended design; mentor the Control Reliability team

Qualifications
Qualifications
Functional Safety certification (TUV Functional Safety Engineer or equivalent), included with resume
5 plus years of functional safety engineering (industrial or automation); ideally 7 to 10
Technical Associate degree or higher in a related discipline
In-depth knowledge of ISO 13849-1, ANSI B11, and related standards
Safety PLC programming (read, interpret, modify, configure) and PLC/SPLC communication and integration
Availability for weekends, off-shifts, holidays, and shutdowns (July and
December); able to lift up to 25 pounds and navigate a large facility
Willing to work onsite in Liberty, NC with about 10% travel (possibly Japan) and about 30% overtime
