Fused Quartz Cutting Technician

A day in this craft

You clock in, review the work orders and drawings, and stage quartz tubing, rod, and plate for the day. Calipers and tape measure at the ready, you verify dimensions before setting up the saw. With coolant flowing, you make clean, precise cuts, inspecting each piece for squareness, accuracy, chips, and cracks. You log production and materials in the ERP system, tidy your station, and leave the equipment ready for the next run — all while following safety protocols and wearing required PPE, including eye protection.

Core responsibilities

• Cut fused quartz tubing, rod, and plate to exact dimensions using saws and related cutting equipment.
• Read and interpret work orders, basic drawings, measurements, and dimensional specifications.
• Measure and verify material dimensions before and after cutting.
• Set up and adjust cutting equipment to meet job requirements.
• Change, align, and maintain cutting blades as needed.
• Inspect finished cuts for dimensional accuracy, squareness, chips, cracks, and other defects.
• Safely handle, stage, and move fragile quartz materials, including larger tubing and plate.
• Record production and material activity using an ERP or production tracking system.
• Manage coolant and cutting slurry associated with wet-cutting operations.
• Clean cutting equipment and maintain an organized workstation at the end of each shift.
• Follow established safety procedures and wear required PPE, including eye protection.

Your background

• Approximately 2–3 years of manufacturing experience preferred; candidates with less experience and strong mechanical or hands-on aptitude are encouraged to apply.
• Comfortable using precision measuring tools such as calipers, scales, and tape measures.
• Proven ability to hold specified dimensions and tolerances.
• Capable of reading work orders, basic drawings, and manufacturing specifications.
• Solid basic math skills for measurements and dimensional calculations.
• Basic computer skills for production and material data entry.
• Ability to safely operate around saws and industrial cutting equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and a patient, methodical approach to work.
• Basic English communication required; Vietnamese language skills are a plus.

Physical and work environment

• Stand for extended periods during the shift.
• Regularly lift, move, and maneuver materials weighing 50 lbs or more.
• Comfortable on a production floor with industrial noise.
• Work around wet-cutting operations, coolant, and cutting slurry.
• Safely handle fragile materials that may chip or crack if improperly handled.
• Wear required PPE while performing production work.
