Job Specific Information: This ad is to build a qualified applicant pool of school counselors in the event that openings occur in grades K-12 for the 2027-2028 school year. Current MCPS teachers and counselors do not need to apply to the applicant pool. In order to be considered for employment, you must be enrolled in or have completed a program leading to certification as a school counselor. The wage range for this position is a salary between $66,690 and $135,745 based on education and experience. SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

Under direction, is responsible for providing comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling services to students in the area of academic achievement, career and educational decision making and personal/social development. Acts as a consultant in this regard to staff, parents and community.

CERTIFICATE LICENSE:

Meets Maryland state certification requirements for school guidance and counseling.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

Thorough knowledge of MCPS Policies and Procedures, Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Program, and Program of Studies. Knowledge of growth and developmental stages of adolescents. Ability to read, take notes, and interpret written materials. Ability to work effectively as a team member and independently with staff, students, and parents. Ability to use a computer and other technological equipment. Ability to use the computer for on-line scheduling. Excellent oral and written communication skill''s with the ability to speak effectively to both large and small groups. Excellent human relations skills with the ability to establish good relationships with many different types of individuals and groups

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:

Master''s degree from an accredited college or university in school guidance and counseling; Experience as a teacher and/or counselor preferred.
