    Job Summary

    The majority of the graduate teaching assistant’s primary duties are in the support of instruction, including but not limited to the responsibilities below:
    1. Assist a faculty member with teaching-related tasks
    2. Serve as a primary or secondary teaching instructor in a class or laboratory
    3. Grade student assignments promptly, which requires knowledge of subjects taught in the class or laboratory
    4. Meet with and/or tutor students, hold office hours, prepare instructional materials, and assist during class and/or lab, etc.
    5. Spend the number of assigned hours for which you are being paid attending to these duties
    6. Proctor lab exams
    7. Grade lab exams and assignments
    8. Take attendance
    9. Complete other duties as assigned
    10. Work hours in Student Learning Center

    Salary Rate / Pay Rate

    $1,510 for 0.5 FTE appointment

    Required Qualifications

    1. Eligible for appointment as per the requirements in the Graduate Assistant Handbook, which can be found at http://hr.illinoisstate.edu/downloads/GA_Handbook.pdf
    2.Degree-seeking graduate student at Illinois State University enrolled in the School of IT Graduate Program, working towards an MS in Information Systems
    3. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required
    4. State law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position
    5. Minimum GRE = Meets or exceeds 300 (verbal + quantitative)
    6. Minimum TOEFL = 94
    7. Skills required vary by teaching assignment include: Java, Python, C++, Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access

    You must be eligible for employment in the United States and at Illinois State University and/or for the number of hours required for the position.

    Illinois State University student employees are restricted to no more than 28 hours per week of on-campus employment for all positions held. International students are restricted by their visa status to no more than 20 hours per week of on-campus employment when the university is in session but may work up to 28 hours per week when the university is not in session. Please contact the Office of International Student and Scholar Services for guidance on visa restrictions on work hours. The University cannot grant exceptions to visa status rules/laws.
