About the Role: Oversee the management of the Garage Department, including the full mechanical shop and timely repair of all equipment, heavy equipment, and rolling stock used at the Nursery. Implement and oversee an effective, Nursery-wide preventative maintenance program with the goal of reducing repair costs. Partner with the fabrication department on innovative, cost-saving repairs to existing equipment. Employment Status: Employment is full-time, Salary exempt from overtime Shift: Monday-Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. Occasional Saturday call-ins may be needed. Hours are subject to change based on business need. What You’ll Do - Assist in preparing and achieving the location’s operating plan, analyzing, evaluating, and adjusting it to meet business objectives.
- Achieve assigned Action Plans.
- Lead by example in implementing the MNQ philosophy.
- Focus on our customers’ needs by providing the equipment and services required to complete work on time and keep Nursery production running efficiently.
- Explore and develop innovations and profitable new business opportunities within the Nursery.
- Ensure all departmental activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations and laws.
- Coordinate and allocate necessary resources.
- Use MNQ Lean Six Sigma to identify process improvements using industry innovations.
- Coordinate requisitions and direct work by specific Craftsmen.
- Facilitate Oracle Maintenance work orders and their completion.
- Perform other related duties to benefit the mission of the company as assigned.
Who You Are - 3 years’ minimum experience in garage maintenance or a similar position.
- Managerial experience with departmental planning, budgeting, and staff supervision preferred.
- Experience or knowledge in diesel and gas engine repair preferred.
- Experience or knowledge in metal fabrication preferred.
- Experience with preventative maintenance programs for large operations preferred.
- Strong planning and execution skills, with the ability to rally a team to meet team and company goals.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with a diverse workforce.
- Ability to generate and submit timely information.
- Willingness to learn and implement Monrovia Nursery Quality standards.
- Strong communication, analytical, and leadership skills.
- Manual and automated computer reading skills desired.
- Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) helpful, but not required.
- Computer literacy sufficient to use relevant programs (Word, Excel, Oracle).
- Self-motivated, dependable, organized, and flexible, with the ability to work with minimal supervision in a multi-task environment.
- Ability to learn new skills and teach them to others.
- Valid state-issued driver’s license.
