    Position Overview

    St. Charles Health System is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Gastroenterologist to join our dynamic and collaborative team in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care across our 4-hospital integrated health system in Central Oregon. This is a full-spectrum GI role encompassing inpatient and outpatient care, endoscopic procedures, and opportunities to participate in program development and administrative initiatives.

    The successful candidate will provide expert medical, surgical, and postoperative care for a broad range of gastrointestinal disorders. This includes hospital rounding, outpatient clinic consultations, dedicated procedural block time, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary care team. You will be supported by a robust network of specialists and advanced practice providers in a system committed to clinical excellence and innovation.


    Work Schedule & Call Expectations

    • Minimum of 40 patient contact hours per week (includes clinic, procedures, and hospital rounding)
    • Participation in a 1:6 GI call rotation, with an assurance of no more frequent than 1:4 call
    • Primarily based at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Oregon, with potential for cross-coverage at other system hospitals as needed

    Key Responsibilities

    • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures including upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), and ERCP
    • Manage a wide spectrum of gastrointestinal conditions including IBD, liver disease, motility disorders, and GI malignancies
    • Deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care, including education and shared decision-making with patients and families
    • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including primary care, surgery, oncology, and nutrition to coordinate optimal care pathways
    • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (Epic EMR)
    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, team meetings, and administrative responsibilities as needed

    Qualifications

    Education

    • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
    • Successful completion of an accredited residency in Internal Medicine
    • Completion of a Gastroenterology fellowship program

    Licensure & Certification

    • Board certification or board eligibility in Gastroenterology
    • Unrestricted Oregon medical license (or ability to obtain)
    • Active, unrestricted DEA license
    • Current BLS certification

    Experience

    • Fellowship-trained in Gastroenterology (required)
    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a mixed hospital and clinic setting preferred
    • Proficiency with endoscopic procedures and evidence-based GI care

    Skills & Competencies

    • Advanced skill with EMR systems (Epic preferred) and Microsoft Office applications
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-based, fast-paced environment
    • Strong organizational and time management abilities
