General Laborer

Job Summary

Structural Mechanical is seeking a dependable, hardworking General Laborer to support our ship repair services team. This position assists skilled tradespeople with a variety of tasks on ship repair job sites, helping ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. The ideal candidate is reliable, physically capable, safety-focused, and eager to learn.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist structural, mechanical, and welding crews with daily job site activities.

  • Load, unload, move, and organize materials, tools, and equipment.

  • Prepare work areas by cleaning, setting up equipment, and removing debris.

  • Operate basic hand and power tools safely and effectively.

  • Support installation, maintenance, and repair of structural steel and mechanical systems.

  • Perform material handling, lifting, and staging of equipment.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and site-specific requirements.

  • Assist with demolition, rigging, and general construction tasks as assigned.

  • Work effectively as part of a team while taking direction from supervisors and skilled tradespeople.

  • Perform other duties as needed to support project completion.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to work on a military base.

    Previous construction, industrial, manufacturing, or mechanical experience is preferred but not required.

  • Ability to safely use basic hand and power tools.

  • Strong work ethic with a willingness to learn new skills.

  • Reliable transportation to job sites.

  • Ability to pass required pre-employment screenings, including drug testing, if applicable.

  • OSHA 10 certification is a plus but not required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds regularly.

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in physically demanding environments for extended periods.

  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and in industrial environments.

  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces when required.

  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, and fall protection.
