Rahway Public Schools Job Description Job Title : Maintenance Worker Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or GED required.
2. 4+ years of progressive experience in construction, facility maintenance, or trades.
3. Solid working knowledge of fundamental construction principles, structural basics, and workplace safety standards.
4. Must be available to work flexible hours/overtime, as required.
5. Valid Black Seal Boiler License preferred (or willingness to obtain within a year).
6. Clear, proactive, and positive communication skills with students, staff, and visitors.
7. Must demonstrate knowledge and skill of basic repairs.
8. Must be able to operate small lift equipment, power and hand tools, and must possess the ability to work from ladders.
9. Must be able to comply with District and State regulations as they relate to District building and safety.
10. Must be able to maintain the physical stamina to perform lifting, prolonged standing, crawling, climbing, and working in various types of weather.
11. Must demonstrate the ability to adhere to safety practices and to comply with District procedures for use of cleaning products and equipment.
12. Such other qualifications of professional and personal excellence as the Rahway Board of Education may specify. Work Year: 12 Months , Expected to respond to emergency situations. Reports To :Manager of Building and Grounds Job Goal : The Maintenance Worker provides safe and sanitary facilities for students and staff by performing basic repair work as necessary, and maintaining school facilities and grounds in proper working condition . Rahway Public Schools Job Description Performance Responsibilities : Performs general construction repairs including, but not limited to, carpentry renovations and repairs; tile and floor installation; replacement of window glass and caulking; installation of drop ceilings; repair to walls, ceilings and doors in locker rooms, classrooms, offices; and other necessary repairs and maintenance activities. Maintains the physical facilities of the District by performing a wide variety of general upkeep and repair tasks. Directed by the Manager of Building and Grounds. Troubleshoots electrical problems such as repair/replacement of switches, ballasts, work or defective wiring; installation of lighting fixtures, etc. Repairs/replaces plumbing fixtures, including faucets, leaky valves, etc. in lavatories and kitchens. Performs repairs to exterior fences, asphalt, concrete, and roofs, etc. Performs interior/exterior painting as needed. Installs and performs minor repairs of mechanical equipment. Performs all necessary snowplowing and salting of school parking lots and playgrounds as needed a nd directed by the Manager of Building and Grounds. Prioritizes repair projects assigned by the Manager of Building and Grounds. Consults with building principals regarding any repair, renovation or maintenance project in their building to determine the best method and time to perform the required work. Works with contractors selected by the district to perform certain maintenance, construction, renovation and repair projects. Plans and completes all tasks in a safe, efficient and workmanlike manner. Deals with emergency repair issues in a calm and efficient manner. Maintains all tools and supplies in a clean and orderly fashion. Recommends to the Manager of Building and Grounds necessary supplies and equipment. Prepares sketches, estimated and material lists required for specific repair projects as directed by the Manager of Building and Grounds. Assist in performing maintenance and preventative maintenance services on small engine equipment. Assist with maintaining all district grounds maintenance and development of new landscape projects. Adheres to District Vehicle Use Policy. Performs other duties and tasks as may be assigned by the Manager of Building and Grounds.
