Brayman Construction is hiring a full-time General Superintendent to support all non-tunneling construction activities at the newly awarded ALCOSAN Ohio River Tunnel Project. This large-scale, long-term project is designed to reduce combined sewer overflows (CSO) and includes complex near-surface, marine, building, and sewer-rehabilitation work at approximately twelve dispersed urban sites. Successful execution will require careful planning around active large-diameter sewers, existing utilities, constrained work areas, river and creek interfaces, public access, traffic control, and coordination with multiple project stakeholders. This role requires strong field leadership, proven experience with complex heavy civil and water/wastewater construction, and rigorous safety and quality oversight.
As General Superintendent, you will earn a competitive annual salary. The schedule will vary, but you will work 40-50 hours per week on average. We provide excellent benefits and perks, including medical, dental, vision, a 401(k) plan, profit sharing, paid time off (PTO), and wellness time. If this sounds like the right opportunity for you, apply today!
JOB SUMMARY
The General Superintendent is the senior field leader responsible for overall execution of the non-tunneling work on the ALCOSAN Ohio River Tunnel Project. This position leads, manages, and oversees project-wide construction work plans, field operations, sequencing, safety, quality, manpower, equipment, productivity, and coordination among multiple specialty Superintendents. Assigned scopes include near-surface structures, support of excavation, marine and in-water work, utility relocations and protections, access improvements, gate control buildings, site logistics, and sewer rehabilitation. The General Superintendent works closely with project management and executive leadership to keep the work aligned with company goals, Owner requirements, contract specifications, safety expectations, quality standards, schedule commitments, budgets, and workmanship standards.
PROJECT SCOPE
- Seven flow regulator structures constructed on and around active 42- to 144-inch brick and concrete sewers, including secant pile or sheet pile support of excavation, soil grouting beneath existing sewers, and fluming or bypass pumping.
- Four outfalls involving temporary cofferdams in the Ohio River, Allegheny River, and Chartiers Creek, with in-water excavation and scour protection.
- A 315-foot interlocking pipe pile river wall, along with soldier pile and pipe pile retaining walls.
- Two H-pile-supported gate control buildings with full mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems; generators; automated slide gates; and instrumentation and controls.
- Sewer cleaning, structural repairs, and spray-applied lining of large-diameter brick sewers.
- Approximately twelve dispersed urban sites operating under City, Borough, PennDOT, and railroad permits.

- Leads project-wide field planning, work schedules, manpower assignments, equipment planning, and coordination among Superintendents to support safe, efficient, and productive execution.
- Establishes and enforces project-wide safety expectations, work-planning requirements, quality controls, and field leadership standards through the Superintendent team.
- Oversees construction of flow regulators, outfalls, retaining walls, pile-supported buildings, utility work, access improvements, and sewer-rehabilitation activities at multiple active sites.
- Coordinates work on and around live large-diameter sewers, including maintenance of flow by fluming, bypass pumping, or diversion and implementation of wet-weather and river-stage contingency plans.
- Oversees near-surface construction in congested urban areas, including limited laydown space, restricted access, pedestrian and traffic interfaces, and coordination with adjacent properties and public agencies.
- Leads identification, communication, and management of overhead and underground utility restrictions, protection requirements, relocation sequencing, shutdown coordination, and work limitations around active infrastructure.
- Coordinates marine and in-water work, including cofferdams, pile-supported structures, excavation, scour protection, and work affected by river conditions.
- Ensures concrete installation controls are followed, including reinforcement, waterstop, embedded-item, and formwork inspections and required pre-placement coordination.
- Coordinates project-wide sequencing with project management, engineering, subcontractors, utility owners, municipal representatives, inspectors, railroads, transportation agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Helps develop schedules, work plans, and production assumptions during bidding and monitors plans and production after award.
- Coordinates hiring plans, manpower loading, employee movement schedules, and equipment needs in alignment with project leadership and regional operations.
- Ensures compliance with safety plans, work plans, permits, contract specifications, and applicable regulations and monitors employee and subcontractor performance.
- Trains and develops employees for current and future roles to support employee and company growth.
