The Governmental Hearing Officer classification will be used by various State agencies to appoint licensed attorneys to serve as hearing officers on a case by case basis. Persons are appointed on an hourly, conditional basis and receive no benefits. The condition of appointment will expire upon the completion of the hearing process. Duties include presiding over hearings, ruling on proceedings, maintaining order and proper decorum, administering oaths, taking testimony, ruling on the admissibility of evidence and other matters of law, issuing written recommendations and decisions, and handling post trial matters, if appropriate.
