Position Summary T&K Asphalt Services, Inc. is seeking an experienced and dependable Grader Operator to join our Preparation Division. This position is responsible for performing grading and site preparation activities to support asphalt paving, concrete, and site development projects. The Grader Operator operates heavy equipment, establishes and maintains grade, performs layout assistance, and works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field personnel to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company quality standards. The ideal candidate possesses strong equipment operating skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Safely operate grading equipment, including skid steers, excavators, loaders, rollers, and other assigned construction equipment. Establish and maintain proper grade control to support preparation crews and paving operations. Assist with layout, elevations, grade checking, and project measurements as directed. Read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, grade stakes, and project specifications. Perform excavation, grading, site preparation, and fine grading activities to project specifications. Assist paving and preparation crews to ensure proper project execution and workflow. Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned equipment. Monitor and maintain proper fluid levels and perform basic preventative maintenance on assigned equipment. Maintain equipment cleanliness and report equipment damage, maintenance needs, or operational concerns to supervisors and shop personnel. Complete required daily reports, equipment inspections, and project documentation accurately and on time. Communicate effectively with Project Managers, Superintendents, and crew members regarding project progress, site conditions, and operational needs. Identify field conditions or project discrepancies and report them promptly to management. Assist with material handling, site cleanup, and other labor-related activities as needed. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site. Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and job site requirements. Participate in winter snow operations and snow removal activities as assigned. Work overtime, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as operational needs require. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Minimum of five (5) years of grading, excavation, or heavy construction experience preferred. Experience operating grading and earthmoving equipment in commercial construction environments. Ability to establish and maintain grade using grade stakes, lasers, GPS systems, or other grading methods. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and project specifications. Knowledge of excavation, grading, site preparation, and paving operations. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Valid Massachusetts Class A, Class B, or Class D Drivers License required. Valid DOT Medical Card required. OSHA training required. Massachusetts (and Rhode Island preferred) Hoisting License 2A-1C required. Commitment to following all company safety policies and procedures.

Working Conditions / Physical Demands

Work is performed primarily outdoors on active construction sites. Frequent exposure to extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, humidity, and wind. Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, heavy equipment, construction vehicles, dust, vibration, and varying terrain. May work around fuels, oils, hydraulic fluids, asphalt products, concrete materials, and other construction-related materials. Frequent standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, bending, stooping, reaching, and operating heavy equipment throughout the workday. Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, and maneuver tools, materials, and equipment weighing up to 80 pounds. Must be able to perform physically demanding work for extended periods. Participation in winter snow operations may require work during evenings, overnight hours, weekends, holidays, and severe weather conditions.

Employment Conditions

This is a seasonal full-time position and is subject to seasonal layoff periods based on workload, weather conditions, and business needs. Overtime, weekend work, holiday work, and flexible scheduling may be required based on operational demands. Participation in winter snow operations is required based on business needs. Employment is contingent upon maintaining a valid drivers license, DOT Medical Card, and any required certifications or licenses.
