The Student Success Center (SSC) Graduate Assistants support the University's efforts to promote student access, academic success, persistence, and belonging. Graduate Assistants work collaboratively with professional staff across the Student Success Center and may support programs and services in Disability & Accessibility Services (DAS), Tutoring & Academic Support, and other SSC initiatives.
While each Graduate Assistant may have a primary area of assignment (for example, Tutoring Services or Disability and Accessibility Services) based on departmental needs, experience, and interests, all Graduate Assistants are members of the broader SSC team and may provide support across functional areas. Graduate Assistants report to the Associate Dean but work closely with and support the Director of Disability and Accessibility Services and the Assistant Director of Tutoring Services and the Writing Center. This structure provides Graduate Assistants with experience in student support and higher education administration while allowing the SSC to respond flexibly to changing student and program needs.

Evening responsibilities may include support for tutoring and academic-support programming, study halls, student events, testing support, and other SSC initiatives. Some daytime availability during regular University business hours will also be required.

Because Graduate Assistants work across the Student Success Center, they will also gain exposure to how multiple student-support functions work together to address barriers, promote student development, and improve student persistence and academic success.
Graduate Assistants with a primary focus in this area have the opportunity to learn about accommodation procedures in higher education and to put their coursework to practice in reviewing and understanding documentation, meeting with students, etc. Graduate Assistants may assist with accommodation-related processes but do not independently determine student eligibility for disability accommodations, approve or deny accommodations, or make other decisions reserved for authorized DAS professional staff.
Graduate Assistants have the opportunity to expand on their academic learning as related to learning theories, academic support methodologies, and working with diverse learners in higher education. Graduate Assistants with a primary focus on Tutoring and the Writing Center may assist with mentoring and professional development of the student tutors under the supervision of the Assistant Director, but do not act as supervisors of student workers or independently assume responsibility for training.
