About the Opportunity

A respected nonprofit organization is seeking an experienced Grant Accounting Manager to lead its grant accounting function and supervise a team responsible for government and privately funded programs. This position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, grant billing, audit support, and staff development.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nonprofit grant accounting, experience managing a team, and expertise working with federal, state, local, and private funding sources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the daily activities of the grant accounting team.

  • Review and ensure the timely submission of grant invoices, reimbursements, and financial reports to funding agencies.

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, organizational policies, and grantor requirements.

  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual grant reporting and closing activities.

  • Monitor grant expenditures and ensure accurate classification of expenses within the general ledger.

  • Review accounts receivable balances related to grant funding and revenue recognition.

  • Guide staff through grant budget modifications, amendments, and reporting requirements.

  • Communicate reporting deadlines and funding requirements to the grant accounting team.

  • Coordinate and support grant-related audits, including preparation of schedules and supporting documentation.

  • Stay current on regulatory and grant compliance changes through ongoing professional development and training.

  • Partner with finance leadership on special projects and process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of nonprofit grant accounting experience.

  • Prior supervisory or team leadership experience.

  • Experience managing federal, state, local, and private grant funding.

  • Strong understanding of grant invoicing, reimbursement processes, and financial reporting.

  • Experience supporting external audits and compliance reviews.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong financial reporting capabilities.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with nonprofit accounting and grant management software.

  • Knowledge of government-funded social service programs.

  • Experience overseeing grant compliance and reimbursement processes across multiple funding sources.

Salary: $85,000 - $90,000
