Job Summary

The Strategic Development and Grant Writer is a strategic, highly visible, and collaborative role that drives WSOC’s long-term financial sustainability and programmatic expansion through innovative funding and partnerships. This position is a key member of the Strategy Development team — helping to shape organizational direction, translate vision into fundable concepts, and actively secure public and private funding that accelerates impact.

This role goes beyond traditional grant writing: it blends funding strategy, opportunity identification, relationship cultivation, and thought leadership to position WSOC as a leading fundable partner in population health and integrated systems of care.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Opportunity & Funding Development

  • Leads identification and assessment of grant and contract opportunities across federal, state, local, foundation, corporate, and philanthropic sources.
  • Collaborates with affiliate leadership and program teams to co-design innovative concepts and funding proposals grounded in WSOC’s strategic priorities.
  • Translates bold ideas into high-impact concept papers and persuasive narratives that capture funder interest.
  • Serves as a core contributor to WSOC’s annual strategic plan and thought leadership activities.

Grant & Proposal Leadership

  • Writes, edits, and submits compelling proposals, letters of inquiry, and requests for awards aligned with organizational goals.
  • Maintains full lifecycle grant tracking — deadlines, submissions, reporting, and compliance.
  • Develops detailed budgets and logic models in support of proposals.

Relationship Cultivation

  • Builds and nurtures meaningful relationships with funders, agency partners, and key stakeholders to enhance WSOC’s visibility and credibility.
  • Represents WSOC at funder events, bidder conferences, and technical assistance sessions.
  • Educates internal stakeholders on funding landscape trends and opportunities.

Cross-Organizational Collaboration

  • Partners with finance, program, and affiliate teams to ensure accuracy and completeness of submissions.
  • Supports post-award reporting and stewardship to deepen funder engagement and ensure future funding success.

Systems & Data Management

  • Leads and enhances WSOC’s grant tracking, calendar systems, and processes to optimize efficiency and institutional memory.
  • Uses data and research insights to support strong storytelling and results-driven proposals.

Leadership & Professional Skills

  • Passion for innovation, impact, and strategic change — a proactive self-starter who thrives in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
  • Outstanding writing and communication skills: clear, persuasive, and engaging.
  • Strong research capabilities with an ability to synthesize data into compelling narratives.
  • Exceptional project management, organizational excellence, and attention to detail.
  • High emotional intelligence and comfort building relationships with internal leaders and external partners.
  • Flexible, solutions-oriented thinker with a positive, “can-do” attitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex deadlines and competing priorities.
  • Tech-savvy with the ability to learn and operate grant research and submission platforms.

Work Arrangements & Travel

  • This role is primarily in-person at WSOC headquarters in Yardley, PA with a minimum of 3 days on-site per week.
  • Some travel required for meetings with affiliates, funders, and external partners across New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Public Administration, Human Services, Communications, or related field required; Master’s preferred.
  • Experience/Knowledge of nonprofit or mission-driven environments with a focus on grant strategy, research, and writing — including foundation, corporate, state, and federal funding success.
