GRANTS & CONTRACTS OFFICER
The University of Alabama at Birmingham
General Responsibilities:
To provide pre-award and non-financial post-award guidance and processing of simple to complex research grants and contract applications, awards and agreements. To represent the University in negotiating terms and conditions of agreements with private and public sponsors. To assist faculty researchers with contractual matters related to sponsored research activity. To provide assistance, as applicable, to junior and senior staff in the administration of sponsored programs.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Act as a university representative for extramural grants and contracts administration and to review complex grant and/or contract proposals and awards.
Provide specific technical or topical expertise, information, training, and problem resolution for grant and/or contract-related activities.
Reviews grant and/or contract proposals and awards which involve consortia, continuing medical education and fellowships for compliance with sponsor regulations and University policies.
Advises faculty and staff on grant and contract administration and provides advice and assistance for compliance with grant and contract application policies and procedures, budget preparation, and presentations.
Reviews, prepares, negotiates, and monitors grant and contract modifications and amendments, re-budgeting requests, correspondence, and subcontracts.
Acts as University representative to sponsors and others and mentors internal and external customers.
Provides training and assistance to other staff, campus liaison, and also acts as a resource for other department personnel.
Provides technical or topical expertise, information, training, and problem resolution for grant and/or contract-related activities.
For the Federal/nonprofit area, reviews grant applications and provides the department with timely and accurate advice and assistance, ensuring compliance with sponsor and policies.
Reviews, validates, and negotiates federal and non-profit research awards, including negotiation of legal terms and conditions and validation and approval of final award budgets.
Creates and processes data use agreements for sponsors, including negotiation of legal terms and conditions.
Processes research project re-budgeting requests to ensure that each request is sponsored allowed.
For the industry area, reviews and negotiates amendments with industry sponsor to existing contracts, work orders under master agreements, including those with multiple sponsors, consortia, and complex business arrangements.
Drafts, reviews, and negotiates industry outgoing subcontracts/amendments for research projects that require contractual negotiation and collaboration with multiple sub-sites.
Identifies and reports potential problems, actions, and policy issues which require clarification or corrective action.
May report to Officer as applicable for guidance.
Attends various committee and department meetings and maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate publications and attending related conferences and seminars.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Salary Pay Range: $57,940 - $94,150
