    Position Overview

    The Grants Specialist is responsible for identifying, pursuing, and securing grant funding that supports KANA's strategic priorities and community programs. This role manages the full grant lifecycle, including research, proposal development, submission, and post-award administration. The position requires strong organization, attention to detail, and advanced written and verbal communication skills to effectively develop competitive proposals and support program compliance.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Supports the organization's mission, goals, and quality standards while demonstrating KANA's core values of Courtesy, Caring, Respect, Sharing, and Pride
    • Upholds KANA's Code of Ethics by conducting all professional activities with integrity, fairness, and respect
    • Builds and maintains strong relationships with funding agencies, Tribal councils, and community partners
    • Monitors grant portals and funding sources for requests for proposals (RFPs) and funding opportunities aligned with organizational priorities; shares opportunities with appropriate staff
    • Conducts pre-application screening to confirm eligibility and alignment with funding requirements
    • Facilitates pre-application planning meetings to establish timelines, roles, and responsibilities for proposal development
    • Collaborates with program staff to write, edit, and prepare high-quality grant proposals, including narratives, budgets, and required forms
    • Ensures proposals are technically accurate, responsive to scoring criteria, and submitted in compliance with all guidelines and deadlines
    • Prepares and compiles supporting documentation such as job descriptions, resumes, organizational charts, maps, and supplemental materials
    • Drafts letters of support, commitment, and Tribal resolutions as required for submissions
    • Maintains organized records, files, databases, and documentation to support effective grant management and regulatory compliance
    • Reviews Notices of Award and distributes information to relevant program staff
    • Schedules and facilitates post-award meetings to communicate funding requirements and expectations
    • Supports program staff in implementing grant-funded activities and ensuring alignment with approved scopes of work
    • Assists with project coordination, budget tracking, and monitoring of grant-funded programs as assigned
    • Provides support for program reporting, compliance requirements, and grant close-out activities
    • Works collaboratively with federal, state, local, and Tribal partners to support grant administration and program success

    Qualifications

    • Associate's degree in business administration or related field and a minimum of two years of experience in grant writing, grant management, proposal development, or closely related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex situations and develop effective solutions
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing
    • Effective interpersonal and relationship-building skills

    Work Schedule

    KANA's standard work schedule is 37.5 working hours per week, typically consisting of 7.5 paid working hours per day plus a one-hour unpaid lunch break (total of 8.5 hours on site per day).
