OVERVIEW & PURPOSE:

Under direct supervision of the Center Manager, provides group fitness instruction, monitors, educates patrons on fitness and safety, and maintains a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for class participants.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Teaches scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time; provides adequate warm-up, exercises, stretching, and cool down.

Instructs patrons on effective workout methods; explains proper techniques, demonstrates exercises; identifies different muscle groups, and teaches appropriate methods to strengthen specific muscles.

Prepares appropriate equipment, and music for each class.

Assists patrons, answers questions, and maintains a positive exercise experience for members and class participants.

Keeps management informed of customer and facility needs.

Ensures that safety standards are met, and that department and facility policies are adhered to.

Performs related duties as required.

15 minutes prior to class and following class, cleans the group exercise room and makes sure room is organized.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Must be mature and have the ability to remedy situations calmly.

Good work ethic.

Working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology and training principles.

Typical Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE "REQUIREMENTS":

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Certified Instructor (ACE, AFAA) or equivalent. Additional specialty/certifications preferred.

Valid North Carolina Driver's License.

ADDITIONAL "REQUIREMENTS":

CPR, AED and First Aid Certification (or will agree to become Certified within three (3) months of employment).

Current Liability Insurance through an accredited Organization.

"PREFERRED" QUALIFICATIONS:

Additional specialty/certifications preferred.
