Actor builds autonomous systems for heavy machinery operating in quarries, mines, and construction sites. With 150+ active deployments, Actor is scaling its universal sensing and compute platform to thousands of machines in the harshest field environments on earth.
The Opportunity
Actor is looking for a Hardware Engineer to own the universal sensing and compute kit that goes on heavy machinery in quarries, mines, and construction sites. You have shipped real industrial or robotic hardware, taken it through compliance, and deployed it in the field.
Actor already runs 150+ deployments. The next challenge is to redesign the core hardware so it is more reliable and can scale to thousands of machines.
What You'll Do
Rebuild the current rack setup and compute housing, covering sensors, cameras, LiDAR, GNSS, and NVIDIA Jetson-class compute, from schematic and BOM through bring-up and field revision
Design for scale and lower cost, targeting 10,000 units that survive harsh, unattended environments
Own hardware compliance (FCC and applicable regulations) for kits sold to customers
Put actuators into machines for drive-by-wire control and connect to machine buses including CAN and J1939
Build out shop manufacturing capabilities (CNC, mills, tooling) and lead hardware work alongside the founding team
You Should Have
4+ years of experience as a hardware engineer or electrical engineer
Proven track record shipping hardware deployed to real machines, robots, or heavy equipment in harsh field environments
Strong electrical design, CAD, and PCB skills
Experience with hardware regulatory compliance (FCC)
High degree of ownership and agency
Nice to Have
Experience working on industrial equipment, vehicle networking, or robotic machinery
Extensive CAD experience
Experience at robotics, autonomous vehicle, aerospace, or heavy equipment companies
Prior early-stage startup experience
Strong engineering, robotics, or mechatronics university background
