Job Summary
Provides technical expertise in veterinary anesthesia, aseptic surgical support, pre- and post-operative care, and veterinary clinical/laboratory services. Supports research and husbandry operations using established procedures and appropriate equipment in environments up to an Animal Biological Safety Level 3 (ABSL-3) facility. Must be able to obtain and maintain DOJ clearance.
Essential Job Functions
Operates and monitors anesthetic vaporizers and patient monitoring equipment to support safe anesthesia administration during veterinary procedures.
Provides pre-operative and post-operative care for veterinary patients.
Participates in daily veterinary rounds and animal health assessments.
Administers veterinary treatments as directed.
Collects biological samples and performs diagnostic testing.
Prepares, cleans, and organizes operating rooms and surgical packs.
Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots medical and surgical equipment.
Performs radiographic imaging and processing.
Maintains accurate surgical, veterinary, and regulatory records.
Provides technical support for research activities.
Assists in developing and delivering training on specialized techniques required to support research programs.
Demonstrates knowledge of biohazard safety and containment procedures.
Monitors facility operations, including safety, security, and maintenance standards in high-containment environments.
Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as SOPs related to humane animal care and use.
Follows internal departmental controls and procedures.
Maintains professional, effective working relationships with colleagues, leadership, and visitors.
