A coach should possess strong communication and organizational skills. They must demonstrate exceptional knowledge of the skills and strategies of their sport as it pertains to the policies of New Mexico Activities Association (NMAA). The coach will supervise high school assistant coaches, middle school coaches and student-athletes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Ensure all coaches in the program are certified, licensed and cleared by CCSD Human Resources departmentEnsures that team rules and regulations regarding conduct and eligibility of the athletes are clearly communicated and followedPlan, organize, advertise, and conduct tryouts for the programInform school Regional Activity Coordinator and participants of the final selectionsMaintain the integrity of the selection processConsult with the school athletic director and provide information regarding any off-season training programs (including scheduling dates for summer camps, coaches clinic schedule), rules for season (two-a-day practices, scrimmages, try-out schedule criteria, etc.)Works with the school athletic director in preparing practice and game or competition schedulesSubmit athletic rosters to the Regional Activities Coordinator one week before the first game or competitionMaintain necessary records and completes required paperwork in a timely mannerEnsure that all athletes have valid sports physical examinations before they are allowed to practiceEnsure that proper forms (insurance, attendance, medical) are obtained and current and that all student-athletes are academically eligibleMake sure all athletes have baseline Impact Tests prior to first scrimmageWork directly with school certified athletic trainer in reporting injuriesEnsure that certified coach is present at all team practices and gamesHead coach will travel with student-athletes on the team bus both to and from competitionsEnforces discipline policiesHold informational parent meetings at the beginning of each season for all levelsAdhere to all financial policies of CCSD in regard to collection and disbursement of money, expenses and receiptsMake recommendations regarding the purchase of uniforms, equipment and suppliesArrange and schedule bus transportation with school athletic director for athletic participantsArrange hotel room reservations for all overnight events except State competitionsFoster among student-athletes, coaches and spectators an appreciation of the values of athletics, a desire to perform at the highest levels, an attitude of good sportsmanship and a sense of pride in self, team school, family and communityAssume a major role in the development of our youth as future leaders.Positive communication strategies, organizational skills and safety awarenessEmphasis on the importance of academic excellence and assist in monitoring and maintaining high academic standards for members of the programAssist team members with applications to post high school programs, college, vocational training or militaryDirect training, conditioning and performance of the programSupervise the assistant coaches in their efforts with teamsDemonstrate current knowledge of sports specific strength and conditioning programsExecute programs during the off-season within the parameters of NMAA regulationsPromote the program within the school and communitySupport district and school efforts to keep CCSD safe and secureComplete and comply with all required trainings annuallyAdhere to NM Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession (NMAC 6.60.9.8)Other duties as assigned, reasonably related to the scope of the position Minimum Qualifications: Valid NM Athletic Coaching LicenseValid New Mexico Teaching License preferredAll Athletic Coaches in K-8 settings MUST be at least 18 years of age, and ALL Athletic Coaches in 9-12 settings MUST be at least 21 years of age. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of Dine language, culture, and history preferredGood communication skills and customer service skillsAbility to organize and supervise a total sports programKnowledge of the technical aspects of the sportCurrent CPR and first aid certification Physical/Job Requirements: Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying up to 50 pounds, climbing, bending, reaching, kneeling, driving a vehicle, traveling long distances, writing, typing, word processing, reading, researching information, and effective communication skills.
