The purpose of this position is to ensure the safety of customers in and around swimming pool areas. This is accomplished by overseeing the activities of lifeguards, conducting lifeguard training, visually scanning swimming pool areas, identifying distressed swimmers or customers, performing in-water rescues and assists as necessary, completing CPR when appropriate, and providing first aid care to customers. Other duties may include providing customer service support, maintaining swimming pools and equipment, managing swimming pool chemicals, assisting with locker room and bathroom maintenance, and interfacing with other City employees and citizens. This position provides direction to other employees.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean, sanitary environment. This will be accomplished by taking pool chemical readings and adjusting chemical levels when necessary. The restrooms are to be inspected and cleaned, as well as the pool deck.
- Maintain exemplary rescue skills, assist Aquatic Supervisor with in-service training.
- Maintain records, including incident reports, AED, daily chemical readings, and disciplinary action.
- Supervise the daily activities of the pool attendants and lifeguards, including rotation, finding replacements for absent guards, monitoring the number of guards needed, position of guard stands (glare), use of safety equipment, and behavior and professionalism of guard staff.
- Provides customer service support by offering assistance to customers, responding to customer inquiries, addressing customer concerns or problems, educating customers on facility rules and procedures, and directing customers to appropriate persons and areas.
- Provides swimming programs by instructing a variety of levels of preschool, youth, and adults, and answering questions on water safety.
- Attends mandatory in-service training.
- May be assigned as a lifeguard
- May be assigned as a swim instructor
- Arrive to work every day, on time, as scheduled.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Must be 18 years of age;
- Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
- Valid Driver's License.
- Position requires the ability to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights, weekends, and during holidays based on operational needs. Flexible schedule: hours will be set by the Aquatics Management Staff.
- Requires valid American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification within three (3) months of hire, with the ability to maintain it while employed.
- Requires valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification before hire date, with the ability to maintain it while employed.
- The American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor is desired or willing to obtain certification within three (3) months of hire, with the ability to maintain it while employed.
- CPO/AFO License (ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire, with the ability to maintain it while employed.)
Supplemental Information
