Careerscape is recruiting on behalf of our client, a growing technology company in the greater Manchester, New Hampshire area, for an experienced Head of Engineering to lead their software organization. This is a high-impact executive role for a technical leader who wants to shape engineering strategy, build high-performing teams, and drive the architecture and delivery of products used by real customers every day.
Day to day, you will split your time between hands-on technical leadership, org-building, and cross-functional partnership with Product, Design, and the executive team. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-moving, hybrid environment, is comfortable setting technical vision while still getting into the details when needed, and genuinely enjoys developing engineering managers and senior ICs into stronger leaders.
Responsibilities
Define and own the engineering roadmap and technical strategy in partnership with the executive team
Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing engineering organization across multiple teams
Partner closely with Product and Design leadership to translate business goals into technical execution
Establish and maintain engineering best practices around code quality, testing, and deployment
Oversee system architecture decisions to ensure scalability, security, and reliability
Manage engineering budgets, headcount planning, and vendor or tooling decisions
Drive a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement across teams
Report on engineering health, delivery timelines, and technical risk to executive leadership
Recruit, hire, and retain top engineering talent at all levels
Represent engineering in company-wide strategic planning and decision-making
Requirements
10+ years of software engineering experience with at least 4 years in senior engineering leadership
Proven track record leading and scaling engineering teams of 20 or more
Strong background in modern software architecture, cloud infrastructure, and distributed systems
Experience partnering with Product and executive stakeholders on company strategy
Demonstrated success hiring, mentoring, and developing engineering managers
Solid understanding of agile development practices and delivery methodologies
Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
Experience operating in a hybrid or distributed team environment
