Head of Mechanical Engineering

Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced Chief / Head Mechanical Engineer to lead our mechanical production team and play a key role in the successful delivery of multifamily residential projects throughout the Chicago market.

This position is ideal for a senior mechanical engineer who enjoys leading people, coordinating projects, and working directly with owners, contractors, and internal engineering teams. The primary focus will be providing technical and production leadership while ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, accurately, and to a high standard.

Business development experience is a plus, but it is not a critical requirement for the role.

What You’ll Do

• Lead and oversee the mechanical engineering production team
• Provide technical direction, mentorship, and support to engineers and production staff
• Manage the mechanical engineering process from project kickoff through completion
• Coordinate with owners, contractors, architects, and other project stakeholders
• Serve as a key point of contact for project-related mechanical engineering matters
• Review designs, drawings, calculations, specifications, and construction documents
• Help establish priorities, schedules, and production expectations for the team
• Identify and resolve technical and project-related issues
• Ensure projects meet quality, schedule, and client expectations
• Support project teams during construction and address contractor questions and RFIs
• Help improve internal processes, standards, and production workflows
• Assist with staff development, hiring, and team growth as needed
• Participate in business development and client relationship efforts when opportunities arise

What We’re Looking For

• Significant professional experience in mechanical engineering
• Strong experience with multifamily residential projects
• Experience working in the Chicago market
• Demonstrated experience leading or managing an engineering production team
• Strong understanding of building mechanical systems and construction
• Ability to effectively communicate with owners, contractors, architects, and engineering teams
• Strong project management and organizational skills
• Ability to make decisions, solve problems, and keep projects moving forward
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred

Leadership & Communication: The successful candidate will be comfortable navigating the needs of multiple stakeholders and balancing priorities between owners, contractors, architects, and the internal engineering team.

We are looking for someone who can provide clear direction to the production team while maintaining strong relationships with clients and project partners.

Business Development: Business development experience is a plus but not required. Candidates who have experience developing client relationships, supporting proposals, or helping grow existing accounts are encouraged to apply, but the primary responsibility of this role is leading the production team and delivering successful projects.
