Head of Research & Development – Formulation

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Head of Research & Development – Formulation to lead formulation development, product innovation, and laboratory operations within the beauty, cosmetics, or personal care industry.

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in cosmetic formulation, product development, regulatory compliance, and commercialization, along with proven leadership experience managing R&D or laboratory teams.

This individual will oversee product development initiatives, collaborate with customers and cross-functional stakeholders, and establish efficient operational processes to support business growth and product innovation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage R&D, formulation, and laboratory operations.

• Oversee the development, testing, and optimization of cosmetic, beauty, and personal care formulations.

• Drive product development initiatives from concept through commercialization.

• Manage relationships and technical discussions with customers, contract manufacturers, and internal stakeholders.

• Ensure product formulations meet applicable regulatory and compliance requirements.

• Provide technical presentations and communicate formulation strategies to customers.

• Establish operational systems, performance metrics, KPIs, and standardized business processes.

• Improve laboratory efficiency, product quality, and overall R&D performance.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product launches.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in the beauty, cosmetics, personal care, or related industries.

• 5+ years of experience leading an R&D, formulation, or laboratory team.

• Strong working knowledge of cosmetic formulation and product development.

• Experience with contract manufacturing, regulatory compliance, and product commercialization.

• Excellent customer-facing communication, presentation, and relationship management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing operational systems, KPIs, and business processes.

• Strong leadership, strategic planning, and team management capabilities.

• Ability to manage multiple product development initiatives and drive projects to completion.
