Job Title: Healthcare Data Integration Specialist

Pay Rate: $27.60/hr. on W2 without benefits

Duration: 12+ months

Work Hours: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

 

Job Description: 

  • Supports the Messaging Team in onboarding healthcare facilities for Electronic Laboratory Reporting (ELR) and Electronic Case Reporting (eCR).
  • This position assists the Lead Integration Analyst and team members by conducting testing and validation in a controlled environment prior to production deployment, ensuring message structure, content accuracy, and successful integration with VDH surveillance systems.
  • Responsibilities include managing test and production readiness and verifying accurate ingestion of messages from multiple sources (e.g., HL7, flat files, web portals, REDCap, etc.).
  • The specialist works closely with internal and external partners to maintain data quality and compliance with reporting standards.

 

Working Hours/Location: 

  • This position requires coming into the office at least once per week, with flexibility based on business needs. Typical working hours follow an 8:00 AM–5:00 PM ET schedule with some flexibility. The role may occasionally require attending in-office meetings when within reasonable commuting distance (35 miles one way), as well as participating in scheduled in-person trainings, divisional activities and team-building events. Additional in-person attendance may be requested.
  • Candidates are expected to be local to the exceptions may be considered under certain circumstances.

 

Responsibilities:

Support Onboarding Workflow for ELR and eCR:

  • Assist with activities from structural and content validation through test and production readiness for healthcare facilities.
    Ensure messages successfully load into surveillance test environments and meet VDH requirements.
    Assist in verifying that messages are properly ingested into VDH systems through Rhapsody interfaces.


Utilize MTS Application for Testing and Production:

  • Handle incoming messages in the Messaging Testing System (MTS) application to confirm message flow and readiness for production.


Validate Message Structure and Content:

  • Perform checks to ensure messages meet HL7 standards and VDH requirements.
    Identify and report discrepancies for resolution.


Monitor Messaging Queues and Facility Status:

  • Track onboarding progress, document findings, and escalate issues to the Lead I/O Messaging Analyst as needed.


Ensure Compliance and Standards:

  • Verify that all messages meet HL7 standards, CDC guidelines, and Virginia's Regulations for Disease Reporting and Control.


Communicate Effectively:

  • Provide clear, timely updates to internal stakeholders and external partners.
    Participate in feedback calls and internal meetings to address issues and share progress.
    Work across teams to ensure effective communication coordination for special projects as assigned.


Protect Data Privacy:

  • Adhere to VDH record retention policies and ensure patient confidentiality throughout all processes.
  • Participates in meetings and provide status updates.
    Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned to support messaging, onboarding, and integration objectives.
    Participates in special projects or initiatives as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Ability to perform data evaluation and analysis; troubleshoot data issues; and develop and maintain documentation of data quality findings. Strong oral and written communication skills; problem solving and interpersonal skills; and identify and analyze data trends.
  • Ability to plan and carry out testing and validation of electronic messages; report and reconcile discrepancies; and research data anomalies.
  • Prepare and provide clear and accurate feedback; work independently and coordinate collaborative efforts; and ensure confidentiality, security, and integrity of data at all times.
  • Bachelor's degree in public health, statistics, public health informatics, information technology, and/or equivalent experience and training.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Health Level Seven (HL7) messaging standards versions 2.3.1, 2.5.1, C-CDA; disease reporting requirements; public health disease surveillance; and medical and/or laboratory terminology.
  • Experience troubleshooting data issues using SQL, SQL Server Management Studio, MS Excel, MS Access and 7Edit.
