We are seeking a friendly, organized, and knowledgeable Healthcare Switchboard Receptionist to join our team and provide exceptional customer service to patients, providers, and staff. This role is ideal for an experienced healthcare professional who is comfortable managing high call volumes in a fast-paced medical environment. Candidates with clinical backgrounds such as Medical Assistant (MA), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Registered Nurse (RN) are strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Answer, screen, and route incoming calls professionally and efficiently
- Take accurate messages and relay information promptly to providers and staff
- Assist patients with general questions, appointment-related inquiries, and medication-related communications
- Provide outstanding customer service while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality
- Manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a busy phone room environment
- Communicate clearly with patients, providers, pharmacies, and clinical staff
- Maintain accurate documentation within electronic medical records and office systems
- Support additional administrative and patient service duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of healthcare experience required
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Certified Medical Assistant (MA), LPN, or RN strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of medical terminology
- Ability to pronounce and understand common medication names
- Excellent communication, phone etiquette, and customer service skills
- Ability to multitask and thrive in a high-volume call environment
- Comfortable sitting for the majority of the workday
- Proficiency with computer systems, EMR/EHR platforms, and office software
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Preferred Skills
- Experience working in a medical office, clinic, specialty practice, or hospital setting
- Familiarity with triaging patient concerns and escalating urgent calls appropriately
- Ability to remain calm, compassionate, and professional under pressure
