Heavy Equipment Operator Job Overview

Our Client is seeking an experienced and dependable Heavy Equipment Operator / Wheel Loader Operator to support plant operations. This position is ideal for someone with experience operating front-end loaders, wheel loaders, or other heavy equipment who also has strong mechanical aptitude and enjoys working in an outdoor industrial environment.

The primary responsibility is safely operating a CAT 980M Wheel Loader to move and load wood chips onto conveyor systems while maintaining a consistent flow of material to production.
This position also provides hands-on training in plant operations, including pumps, valves, conveyors, mechanical systems, equipment inspections, and basic troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate a CAT 980M wheel loader to move and load wood chips onto conveyors.
• Maintain a consistent flow of raw materials to support plant production.
• Perform routine inspections of heavy equipment and identify mechanical or safety concerns.
• Monitor equipment performance and communicate maintenance needs.
• Assist with daily plant operations and production activities.
• Learn the operation and inspection of pumps, valves, conveyors, and other mechanical systems.
• Assist with basic troubleshooting and maintenance of plant equipment.
• Communicate effectively with plant operators and other team members.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Follow all established safety procedures and operating guidelines.
• Work outdoors in changing weather conditions.
• Perform additional duties as needed to support efficient plant operations.

Training & Work Schedule

The position begins with a hands-on training period. During training, employees will work:
7:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Training will focus on equipment operation, plant processes, mechanical systems, and safety procedures.
After successfully completing training, the Heavy Equipment Operator will transition to a rotating schedule that includes both day and night shifts based on operational needs.
Qualifications

• Previous heavy equipment operation experience preferred.
• Experience operating wheel loaders, front-end loaders, or similar heavy equipment preferred.
• Experience operating a CAT 980M is a plus.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn plant equipment and processes.
• Ability to recognize equipment problems and communicate maintenance needs.
• Willingness to learn about pumps, valves, conveyors, and other industrial systems.
• Strong commitment to workplace and equipment safety.
• Dependable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
• Comfortable working primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Must be willing and able to work rotating day and night shifts after completing training.
