Our equipment and fleet teams keep crews moving on some of the most demanding job sites in the industry, and we're looking for a hands-on leader to run our Burleson shop operation.

    Position Overview

    Southland Holdings is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Shop Supervisor to oversee daily operations of our Burleson, TX maintenance shop. This role is responsible for leading a team of mechanics and technicians who maintain, repair, and service the heavy equipment fleet supporting our active construction projects. The ideal candidate combines strong technical knowledge of heavy equipment with proven leadership skills, ensuring the shop runs safely, efficiently, and keeps equipment ready for the field.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Supervise and schedule daily shop activities, assigning work to mechanics and technicians based on priority and project needs
    • Oversee preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repair, and rebuild work on heavy construction equipment (excavators, dozers, loaders, cranes, dump trucks, and related machinery)
    • Manage shop workflow to minimize equipment downtime and maximize fleet availability for active job sites
    • Enforce safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with OSHA and company safety standards in the shop environment
    • Train, mentor, and evaluate shop personnel; support hiring and onboarding of new technicians
    • Coordinate with project superintendents and equipment managers to prioritize repairs and equipment deployment
    • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and inspection reports using the company's fleet/maintenance management system
    • Manage parts inventory, order supplies, and maintain relationships with vendors and outside repair facilities
    • Monitor and control shop labor hours, parts costs, and outside repair expenses against budget
    • Conduct or oversee inspections of incoming/outgoing equipment and ensure DOT compliance where applicable
    • Troubleshoot complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine issues and provide hands-on support as needed
    • Ensure the shop facility, tools, and equipment are organized, well-maintained, and compliant with environmental regulations

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/trade school certification in diesel or heavy equipment mechanics preferred
    • 5+ years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic or technician, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role
    • Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and heavy construction equipment (CAT, Komatsu, John Deere, etc.)
    • Experience managing shop operations, scheduling, and technician workloads
    • Familiarity with fleet maintenance software and work order systems
    • Valid driver's license required; CDL a plus
    • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
    • Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic equipment output
    • Working knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and shop safety best practices
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a shop environment with exposure to noise, grease, and varying temperatures
    • Welding and fabrication experience a plus

    Work Schedule

    Full-time, on-site at the Burleson, TX shop. Some flexibility for early mornings, occasional weekends, or after-hours support may be required to meet equipment turnaround needs for active projects.
