Level 1 Technical Support Specialist / Help Desk Technician
Pay: $50,000+ per year

About the Role

Our client is a growing managed IT services provider looking for a Level 1 Technical Support Specialist to join their team near Albany, NY. This is a great entry-to-early-career opportunity for someone who enjoys solving problems, communicating clearly with end users, and building a foundation for a career in IT support. You'll be the first point of contact for clients experiencing technical issues, handling everything from password resets to basic hardware and software troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for incoming help desk tickets, phone calls, emails, and chat requests
  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic hardware, software, network, and printer issues
  • Reset passwords and manage user account access (Active Directory / Office 365)
  • Set up and configure new workstations, laptops, and peripherals
  • Install, update, and configure software applications
  • Document all support interactions accurately in the ticketing system
  • Escalate unresolved or complex issues to Level 2/3 support teams with clear documentation
  • Follow up with users to confirm issue resolution and satisfaction
  • Assist with basic network connectivity issues (Wi-Fi, VPN, Ethernet)
  • Support onboarding and offboarding processes for employee IT equipment and accounts
  • Maintain inventory of IT equipment and supplies
  • Follow established IT policies, procedures, and security protocols

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or IT certification (CompTIA A+, ITIL Foundation) preferred
  • 1+ years of experience in a help desk, technical support, or customer service role
  • Basic understanding of Windows and/or macOS operating systems
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office 365 and common business applications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users in a clear, patient manner
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tickets and tasks simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ticketing systems
  • Basic knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP)
  • Familiarity with Active Directory user management
  • Experience supporting remote or hybrid workforces
  • CompTIA A+ certification (or in progress)

Work Schedule & Environment

  • On-site position based in Albany, NY
  • Standard business hours, Monday–Friday (occasional evening/weekend coverage may be required)
  • Fast-paced office environment with regular in-person and phone/chat interactions
