Histology Technician

Location: Houston, TX (Medical Center)

Pay Rate: Starting at $36.00/hour (Based on experience)

Schedule: Monday-Friday | 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Dean's Professional Services is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Histology Technician to support a leading healthcare laboratory in Houston, TX. This role is ideal for an experienced professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to producing high-quality slides that support accurate and timely patient diagnoses.

Responsibilities:

• Verify specimen identification, integrity, and prioritization to meet turnaround times

   

• Perform tissue processing, embedding, and microtomy with a strong focus on precision and quality

   

• Prepare and stain slides using routine and special staining techniques (AFB, Gram, PAS, Trichrome)

   

• Perform frozen sections with proper orientation and rapid turnaround

   

• Label, coverslip, and distribute slides for pathologist review

   

• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment including tissue processors, cryostats, and stainers

   

• Perform and document quality control and corrective actions

   

• Maintain accurate documentation in laboratory systems and regulatory logs

   

• Monitor inventory, reagents, and supplies to ensure proper storage and compliance

   

• Troubleshoot equipment and support preventive maintenance

   

• Maintain organized workspaces and assist with lab workflow efficiency

   

• Participate in training, competency assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives

   

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED required

   

• Associate's Degree in Histology or related field preferred

   

• HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) certification required

   

• Minimum 2 years of hands-on histology experience (hospital or reference lab preferred)

   

• Strong experience in microtomy, embedding, and tissue processing

   

• Knowledge of special stains, frozen sections, and laboratory operations preferred

   

• Familiarity with laboratory systems (e.g., CoPath) and basic computer skills

   

• Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills
