Histology Technologist 1-Contractor

Summary:

Accurately fixes, embeds, cuts and stains tissue for Pathologist interpreation and diagnosis. Provides quality technical and customer service to all customers.

Responsibilities:

• 1. Provides quality technical and customer service to all customers in compliance with the expectations set by the organization.
• 2. Performs computer accessioning and proper specimen labeling, insuring specimen integrity.
• 3. Assists Pathology Residents and Pathologists as needed in Frozen Section & Gross
• Room as needed.
• 4. Performs routine Histology procedures necessary to prepare slides for examination by Pathologists, including but not limited to embedding, cutting, mounting, and staining.
• 5. Performs special stains in accordance to quality standards.
• 6. Initiates work procedures and performs all quality control, instrument maintenance & documentation required by accrediting agencies.
• 7. Communicates effectively and appropriately with coworkers, pathology residents & pathologists to assure the quality & integrity of the service.
• 8. Maintain a safe environment for one's self and coworkers to comply with all regulatory agencies & with hospital's & Laboratory's Safety Programs.
• 9. Assists in maintaining section's inventory to ensure proper levels of reagents, controls and disposables.
• 10. Participates in Laboratory Performance Improvement Program.
• 11. Teaches and trains new employees, students and Pathology Residents.
• 12. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
• 13. Performs other duties as assigned.

  Education Skills Experience:

  Required: Associate Degree Minimum Experience: one year Desired: Histotechnologist certification preferred or eligible.
