You Will:
Perform histology and cytology procedures including specimen processing/fixation, cell block preparation, embedding, microtomy, slide preparation, routine stains, IHC and special stains, and caseorganizationin accordance withdepartment procedures.
Assure positive sample,blockand slide identification
Prepare andmaintainreagents for routine stains and histology procedures.
Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and instrumentation per manufacturer & department procedures and per department schedule.
Adhere to department policy with regards to performance and documentation of quality control and quality assurance for instrumentation, equipment and procedures performed.
Utilize independent judgement andproblem-solvingskills to ensure the accuracy of procedures performed and proper equipment performance.
Troubleshootsand takesappropriate correctiveaction to resolve and/or escalate issuesin a timely mannerfor resolution.
Adhere to department policy with regards to performance and documentation of quality control and quality assurance for instrumentation, equipment and procedures performed.
You Should Have:
High School Diploma AND minimum two years of histology experience
OR High School Diploma AND completion of an accredited program in Histotechnology
OR Associate’s degree in Chemistry, Biology AND one year of histology experience
OR Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology or Chemistry
National Certification as a MT (ASCP) or HT (ASCP)required
State license whererequired(CA, FL, GA, HI, LA, MT, NV, NY, ND, RI, WV)
Thorough knowledge of histology methods and correlation to disease processes
Ability to followprotocols for the proper fixation and routine staining of samples
Ability to consistently prepare and produce specimen sections withappropriate slideorientation, thickness, and stain quality for microscopic diagnosis by a pathologist
Demonstrates good technique in the cutting, embedding, orientation and staining of specimens
General knowledge of laboratory accreditation and regulatory compliance requirements
Excellent communication, teamwork and organizational skills. Sets a positive example.
Ability to train others
Effective and proactive problem solving and decision-making skills

Our infrastructure includes a fully automated esoteric core laboratory in Fort Lauderdale, a histology and microbiology operation in Largo, Florida, and a network of hospital based rapid-response laboratories present in four HCA Healthcare divisions within the state of Florida.
