About Solano Community College:

Solano Community College District is a single college district that serves one of the most ethnically and racially diverse counties in California. Located on the ancestral lands of the Patwin people, Solano Community College's Fairfield campus is in the heart of Suisun Valley midway between San Francisco and Sacramento. Solano Community College History Department invites applications of interested and qualified part-time/hourly instructors. These are non-tenure track positions in which adjunct faculty would teach one to three courses per semester. Selected candidates may be offered in-person teaching assignments at one or more of our campus centers. Our most immediate need is for faculty who are qualified to teach American Women's History and U.S. History to 1877, but there may also be opportunities for faculty with experience teaching California History and early world history. This is not a remote work assignment.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses in American Women's History, US History, World History, and/or California History
• Provide excellent instruction and faculty support to students, which may include morning, afternoon, evening, or weekend assignments.
• Inform/advise students about course requirements; evaluate and provide timely verbal and written assessments of student performance; prepare and grade assignments and examinations; meet administrative timelines and submit completed reports and required documents; and maintain required student attendance, scholastic records, and other related materials.
• Participate in the development, assessment, and evaluation of student learning outcomes (SLO) and Program Level Outcomes (PLO).
• Optional participation in professional development activities and initiatives, both departmental and college wide.
• Maintain currency in field(s) of expertise.
• Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Masters Degree in History OR a Bachelors degree in History AND a Masters degree in Political Science, Humanities, Area Studies; Womens Studies, Gender Studies, Social Science or any Ethnic Studies; OR the equivalent; OR possession of a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructors Credential in History (please note that issuance of CC Credentials was discontinued in July of 1990; they are no longer available);

AND

A sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

If you do not possess the minimum qualifications exactly as stated above you must request an equivalency review and submit conclusive supporting documents at the time of submitting your application. Equivalency is defined as possessing the general education for the degree and the major coursework for the degree. The equivalency request form shall be included in the application. All degrees must be from accredited institutions.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience teaching at the community college level
• A demonstrated commitment to valuing and promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism in the classroom.

Adjunct faculty may purchase health and welfare benefits, at their expense, to the extent permitted by the District's health and welfare benefits carrier and/or broker.

Eligibility:

Taught at Solano Community College for at least two semesters (excludes summer session); must be scheduled for a minimum of 40% assignment at the time of enrollment in the health plan; enrollment periods to be determined each semester; once enrolled mandatory participation will be required (participation period to be determined); premiums will be made through payroll deduction and additional premiums due on a monthly basis by check to the Business Office no later than the 10th of each month for the succeeding month's benefits; and other procedures for implementation as determined by the District in consultation with the Association.
