The Department of History at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#126230) in Public History at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The start date for the position is August 1, 2025.
Responsibilities include teaching required graduate public history seminars; survey and upper division courses in U.S. history; and mentoring, advising, and directing theses and dissertations for public history graduate students. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the Public History Program (MA and PhD) and work with campus and community partners, as well as local, regional, and national public history institutions. An active research agenda and US specialization is expected.
A terminal degree in history or a closely related field is required by the appointment date.
Applicants with leadership potential or the ability to teach Oral History Theory and Methodology will receive special consideration.
