Title: LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse
Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, Nurse Coordinator, Building RN and the Director of
Student Services, the LPN will provide and attend to the essential medical needs and well-being of the
student(s). This role requires a strong understanding of patient care, excellent communication skills,
flexibility and the ability to work collaboratively with school staff.
Essential Functions:
- Assess student's physical well-being & address health issues as needed (Ex. Illness, asthma etc.)
- Provide medical care to student(s) with special needs which may include but not limited to:
o Basic medical coverage (vital signs, first aid)
o Dispensing of prescription medication
o Maintain health records, chart procedures, medication administration and medical
status
o Diabetic Care
o Tube Feedings
o Seizure Disorder care and safety
o Catheterizations and other specialized procedures in accordance with the State of CT
guidelines.
- Maintain communication with RN, PT, OT, SLP , Teacher and Parents re: health (via log and
verbally)
- Attend PPT's as needed

- Certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
- Maintain Red Cross Certification in First Aid & CPR
- Interest in and an understanding of school aged children
- Respect for confidentiality of information
- Ability to accept and utilize nursing supervision and consultation
- Clerical proficiency pertaining to medical record keeping
- Flexibility required for potential building and assignment transfers within the school district
based on student needs
- Flexibility required for potential support needed before, during and after school transportation.

Equipment Operation and Physical Requirements:
- Operate a range of standard office equipment, including personal computers, printers, scanners,
digital communication tools and modern software applications.
- Ability to work in a setting subject to interruptions with heavy traffic flow and work volume.
- Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods, walk as needed
- May be required to provide physical assistance to children including lifting, toileting, diapering,
dressing and feeding, etc.
Terms of Employment: This role is a 10-month academic year position, with additional availability
required for 4 week ESY/Summer School Program.
