Horizontal Boring Mill CNC Machinist (Large-Part Setup & Programming)

• Shifts: Day 6:00a–4:30p (Mon–Fri) and Night 4:00p–2:30a (Sun–Thu)
• Compensation: $25.00–$35.00 per hour, commensurate with experience

A Day in the Life

You clock in to a true heavy-manufacturing floor—overhead cranes moving massive workpieces, the hum of horizontal mills, and a new job traveler ready for you. You’ll stage and secure large components using 3-point methods, hold parts in a relaxed state to preserve geometry, and bring up programs on Fanuc controls (from 18M to 30iB) to verify, edit, and optimize. With blueprints at your side and micrometers in hand, you’ll measure, adjust, and machine precise features that will serve demanding industrial applications. It’s not fixture swapping—it’s authentic heavy machining from setup through first-article verification.

What You’ll Handle

• Operate large CNC horizontal mills and complementary equipment
• Set up oversized/heavy parts per detailed work instructions
• Execute accurate 3-point setups; secure parts in a relaxed, strain-free condition
• Read engineering drawings and machining specifications with precision
• Load, prove out, and edit CNC programs (Fanuc 18M through 30iB)
• Tune processes and setups to improve cycle time and quality
• Inspect features using ID/OD micrometers, calipers, and other precision tools
• Confirm all critical dimensions and tolerances before release
• Adhere to safety procedures and follow standardized work instructions
• Keep your area organized, safe, and audit-ready
• Work independently while meeting productivity, quality, and safety targets

What You’ll Bring

• Hands-on experience with large horizontal CNC mills
• Proven skill setting up large workpieces
• Background with 3-point setups and relaxed-state part holding
• Comfort with Fanuc controls, including 18M and 30iB
• Fluency in blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation
• Proficiency with ID/OD micrometers, calipers, and related gaging
• Solid understanding of CNC machining and setup fundamentals
• Troubleshooting mindset for both machining and setup issues
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and high attention to detail

Tools & Technologies

• CNC Mill (3–4 axis VMC)
• CNC Mill (5+ axis VMC)

Work Environment

Heavy manufacturing, shop-floor setting with large machinery, cutting tools, and industrial equipment. Standard PPE is required. Temperatures vary seasonally (hot in summer, cold in winter). You should be comfortable around heavy equipment and the physical demands of large-part machining.
