POSITION OVERVIEW
The Hospice Sales Executive is responsible for developing, managing, and expanding referral relationships throughout Marin County while driving admissions growth and increasing market presence.
In this role, you will serve as a trusted resource for physicians, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living communities, discharge planners, case managers, social workers, and other healthcare professionals by educating them on hospice services and ensuring a seamless referral experience.
Working closely with clinical and operational leadership, you will execute strategic business development initiatives designed to strengthen partnerships, increase census, and support the organization's continued growth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Development & Territory Growth
- Develop and maintain referral relationships with physicians, hospitals, discharge planners, case managers, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living communities, and other healthcare providers throughout Marin County.
- Identify, cultivate, and secure new referral opportunities while strengthening existing accounts.
- Develop and execute strategic territory business plans that increase admissions, market share, and overall territory performance.
- Maintain consistent face-to-face contact with referral partners and community stakeholders.
- Generate new business through relationship-based sales strategies and exceptional customer service.
Relationship Management
- Serve as a trusted resource regarding hospice philosophy, eligibility requirements, services, and patient care options.
- Educate healthcare professionals on the benefits of hospice and appropriate patient referrals.
- Build long-term partnerships through responsiveness, professionalism, and consistent follow-through.
- Maintain a strong presence within key healthcare accounts and community organizations.
- Represent the organization with professionalism and integrity throughout the healthcare community.
Community Outreach
- Participate in networking events, healthcare meetings, educational programs, and community outreach initiatives.
- Increase awareness and understanding of hospice services throughout Marin County.
- Support educational initiatives that strengthen referral partner engagement and community visibility.
- Collaborate closely with admissions, clinical, and operational teams to ensure smooth patient transitions and an exceptional referral experience.
Sales Performance
- Maintain a robust pipeline of referral opportunities.
- Achieve and exceed admissions, census growth, and territory performance goals.
- Track referral activity, account development efforts, and market opportunities using CRM tools.
- Provide leadership with territory updates, competitive intelligence, and market insights.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The successful candidate will possess:
- Two or more years of successful hospice, home health, or healthcare sales experience.
- Strong knowledge of the Marin County healthcare market.
- Established relationships with physicians, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living communities, discharge planners, case managers, social workers, and other referral sources.
- Demonstrated success growing admissions and developing new business.
- Outstanding communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent organizational and territory management abilities.
- Self-motivation with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams.
- Professionalism, integrity, and a genuine passion for serving patients and families.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of two years of healthcare sales, hospice sales, home health sales, business development, liaison, marketing, or referral development experience.
- Healthcare services sales experience required.
- Proven success developing referral relationships and growing territory performance.
- Strong understanding of the Marin County healthcare landscape.
- Demonstrated job stability and consistent sales success.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid driver's license.
- Reliable personal transportation.
- Current automobile insurance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Hospice, palliative care, home health, senior living, hospital, post-acute, or related healthcare experience.
- Outside referral development experience strongly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Established relationships with local physicians, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and referral sources.
- Clinical background is a plus but not required.
