Find Your Passion and Purpose as a Hospice Visit Physician
AccentCare is seeking a per diem Hospice Visit Physician to provide in-home patient visits and backup coverage for the Hospice Medical Director; a flexible, patient-facing role ideal for a physician who wants meaningful clinical work in end-of-life care without a full-time commitment.
Location: Warwick, RI
Coverage Area: Providence, Kent, and Bristol counties
Compensation: Per visit
Schedule: 2-4 hrs/wk, PRN
What You Need to Know:
This role is responsible for conducting hospice and/or palliative care visits, evaluating patients for hospice eligibility and recertification, managing pain and symptoms, and supporting patients and families through goals-of-care and advance care planning discussions.
If you meet these qualifications, we would love to meet you:
- Must be a licensed Medical Doctor (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) in the state(s) of practice, with training or experience in caring for chronically or terminally ill patients
- Maintains active, unrestricted medical and DEA licenses in the state of Rhode Island
- Working knowledge of hospice and palliative care, including pain and symptom management.
- Familiarity with hospice regulations and Medicare requirements.
- Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication skills for interaction with patients, families, and providers.
- Ability to manage complex clinical and ethical situations in end-of-life care.
- (Preferred) Hospice or hospice visit experience
Job Responsibilities:
- Evaluate patients for pain, symptom management, and hospice eligibility (admissions and recertifications).
- Counsel patients and families on care options and advance care planning.
- Order tests, initiate treatment, and conduct face-to-face visits as needed.
- Serve as Attending Physician when appropriate.
- Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams and communicate with attending physicians to ensure continuity.
- Manage patient medications.
- Participate in on-call rotation and provide 24/7 availability when assigned.
- Complete timely and compliant clinical documentation.
