Housekeeping Supervisor

Position Summary

The Housekeeping Supervisor coordinates daily room-cleaning assignments and supports the housekeeping team in meeting the hotel’s cleanliness, safety, service, and brand standards. The supervisor inspects work, coaches employees, communicates room status, and escalates guest, staffing, and maintenance concerns.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assign daily work and communicate priorities, occupancy needs, VIP rooms, stayover service, and checkout-room priorities.

• Monitor room status and coordinate with the front desk and other departments to support timely room readiness.

• Inspect guest rooms and assigned areas using the property’s inspection standards; document results and arrange follow-up when needed.

• Coach and train employees on cleaning procedures, brand standards, guest privacy, safety, equipment use, and proper handling of guest property.

• Report maintenance issues, damage, safety hazards, and lost property through the property’s established process.

• Support appropriate staffing and coverage; communicate attendance or performance concerns to the manager and Human Resources.

• Verify that employees record all time worked accurately and promptly report missed punches or other timekeeping issues.

• Help maintain housekeeping carts, supply closets, equipment, and inventory; report shortages or repair needs.

• Follow and reinforce procedures for chemical labeling and use, safety data sheets, personal protective equipment, and hazard reporting.

• Respond professionally to guest concerns and refer matters requiring additional authority to the appropriate manager.

• Maintain accurate room-status, inspection, training, and other required records.

• Protect confidential employee and guest information.

• Complete required training and other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The supervisor may assign and review work, provide day-to-day coaching, and communicate performance or conduct concerns to the manager and Human Resources. The supervisor must follow company procedures for hiring, discipline, schedule changes, and other employment decisions and obtain required approvals before taking action.

Qualifications

• Prior hotel housekeeping experience; supervisory experience preferred.

• Ability to organize work, communicate clearly, and provide respectful coaching.

• Ability to use the property’s housekeeping, inspection, and timekeeping systems or learn them with training.

• Ability to handle guest and employee concerns professionally and maintain confidentiality.

• Must meet the property’s minimum age requirement and any applicable legal requirements.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements:

This position involves frequent walking and standing and may require bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing carts, handling linens and supplies, and inspecting rooms and work areas. The work may involve exposure to cleaning products, wet floors, and varying room temperatures. The employee must follow applicable safety instructions and use required protective equipment.
