Assistant/Associate - Appointment Stream (NTS)
The Department of Health Policy & Management, School of Public Health, University of Pittsburgh is seeking a practice-focused faculty member, in a non-tenure stream appointment, at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, with demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and leadership in academic programs. Candidates with practice experience and educational backgrounds in health administration, health services management, business administration, organizational studies or related fields are encouraged to apply. Health care industry experience in a payer, provider, not-for-profit, government, or consulting is strongly preferred.
Teaching emphasis will focus on management-related areas, including any of the following:
The successful candidate will be closely involved with teaching and mentoring in the Department's graduate programs including its Master of Health Administration (MHA), Master of Public Health (MPH), and MHA/MBA programs. The teaching and mentoring may also involve undergraduate students in the School of Public Health's Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) program. Areas of responsibility will include students' integrative experiences, professional development activities, curriculum development, accreditation, job placement, and alumni relations.
This position is a full time 12-month appointment and requires teaching four 3-credit courses annually.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach graduate courses in the Department and mentor master's students. The role may include similar involvement with undergraduate students. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in service at the Department, School, or University level.

The University of Pittsburgh Department of Health Policy and Management's Masters in Health Administration (MHA) is one of the oldest accredited programs in the US. It currently ranks 12th in the US News and World Report. The Department is located in the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health, which is ranked seventh in terms of National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding. A member of the Association of Schools of Public Health, the School of Public Health (SPH) has nearly 600 students, 156 full-time faculty members and more than 500 staff members, SPH is located in the heart of Pittsburgh's healthcare district and in close proximity to the University of Pittsburgh's other five health sciences schools and the main Pittsburgh campus.
The mission of the Department of Health Policy and Management is to improve public health through better planning, design, management, and evaluation of the myriad organizations that provide health services. The core disciplines represented within the Department include health economics, health services research, human resource management, health policy, law, ethics, and organization studies applied to health care. Faculty are engaged in multidisciplinary research, and scholarship addressing a range of problems relevant to health policy, health services delivery, outcome measurement, patient safety, leadership, and organization management relevant to healthcare organizations and systems. In addition to the accredited Master's in Health Administration and joint MHA/MBA program, the Department offers a Master's of Public Health, a Master's of Science in Health Services Research and Policy, and a PhD in Health Services Research and Policy. The Department has funded research projects totaling more than $22 million. There are 22 primary faculty members and more than 100 students currently enrolled in various degree programs in the Department. Faculty lead or collaborate with research centers across the University, including the Medicaid Research Center, Center for Women's Health Research and Innovation, Health Policy Institute, Hillman Cancer Center, Center for Bioethics and Health Law, Center for Research on HealthCare, and Center for Pharmaceutical Prescribing and Policy.
